I'm still tinkering with the new to me 1953 Airone sport.  I'm pretty sure that i have found the main issue with the poor running, the condensor in the mag had failed.  I have fitted a new one and in the process of refitting eveything back together again.
In the mean time, a mate is looking into making a new slide for the carb as the old one is extremely worn on the front face.  The slide fitted is marked up as an 80 cutaway.  Is this correct for a SSF25A carb on an Airone sport?  I have been through various books, manuals etc and have seen 80, 90 and 100 all suggested for the carb.  In the 1949 English translation it mentions a piston number 100 in the carb specs which could be a poor translation of carb slide or Valvola gas.
Many thanks

Hi Don,
I would make the slide to the smallest cutaway,  it is easy to enlarge it if needed not so easy to reduce the cutaway!!!!

Good advice!

I know this has been posted before but this is a wonderful website with all sorts of manuals.

I have a Dellorto manual showing most of the old singles carbs, Airone Sport with SSF25A indicates the Valvola Gas is a 100.  I also have a spare SSF25A on the shelf, which has a slide, marked 100.

See if you can enlarge the above enough to read, if not, let me know.

Many thanks everybody, the Dellorto has a suprisingly large cutway, much bigger than an Amal. The slide on mine is marked as an 80, we'll start with that and see how it goes.

Many thanks everybody.  My mate turned up at the pub last night with a work of art, produced from a chunk of phosphur bronze he had in his workshop.  He's gone for quite a small cutaway intially.  The old slide has worn considerably, the body was in pretty good shape with very little wear.
Here's the new one and the old one.  I'm off to the garage to fit it and see how it works.

Wow!  That looks like it turned out great!  Hope it does the trick.  You’re very lucky, my mates just show up at the pub with an appetite for pub drinks…
