I would like to have a display manager (or at least something that acts like one) in my wayland setup, like I did with LightDM in my xorg setup. I've installed greetd with the gtkgreet greeter, but I'm not sure how it is supposed to be used. More specifically, I'm not sure how to lock my computer so that it'll go back to the greeter for login.

Currently when my system wakes up from sleep, it just shows the desktop. I saw that many people use swaylock, but swaylock has a login screen of its own, instead of the greeter that I want to use. So is it possible to have my system wake up to the greetd greeter?

Is there a setting we can adjust in managing our ChromeOS devices to turn the feature "show lock screen when waking from sleep"? Currently users can turn this setting on/off themselves , but we rather want to enforce this setting on. Can't find any such settings in the admin console.

...I am having this issue also, but I can't find how to access the page code injection for the lock page, so I don't know where to put this helpful code from @tuanphan. Can anyone help with this? Feels like a silly question...

Dynamic lock is a feature in Windows 10 that automatically locks your screen when you move away from your computer. It uses the location of a paired Bluetooth-enabled smartphone to detect when you physically move away from your PC. To enable dynamic lock, go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > under Dynamic lock, select Allow Windows to automatically lock your device when you're away.

To turn off the lock screen on Android, go to Settings > Security > Screen Lock and choose None. On iOS, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > enter your code > choose Turn Passcode Off. To turn off the lock screen in Windows, you have to change the registry key.

On Windows, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. Find the Background section and select Picture or Slideshow to use your picture as the background image. On Android, long-press the Home screen, then choose Styles & wallpapers. On an iPhone, go to Settings > Wallpaper > Choose new wallpaper.

I am currently using Linux Mint XFCE Edition, here's the thing, I want to use screen lock while downloading a file through Firefox, but when ever I do so the download stops (I guess everything comes to a halt?), is there a setting in XFCE which you can set/or change so the download keep working in the background while using the lock screen option?

This never happens in the Cinnamon DE or in the MATE Edition of Mint, there you can start a download in Firefox and lock the screen and the process does not stop. The download will take hours and I'm in need to be able to lock the screen for privacy reasons.

I have not changed anything within the power settings, figured it would be like it is in Cinnamon/MATE. Yes, same second as I lock the screen (immediately), and then when I'll login the download in Firefox has stopped.

Thanks for clarifying your setup. Since you are using a wired network connection (eth I assume) which ordinarly is extremely reliable, FF logging a "failed" download would suggest that your download connection/session to the server is being dropped upon "locking" your xfce-session (Note: I often observe this error on a flaky wifi setup/environment).

Perhaps the workaround mentioned in THAT post might work for you? Alas, I have no test setup that I could use to work this out for you, but you could give a try as long as you don't mind that xfce's screensaver kicks in instead of the xflock4 script.

Thanks for that information, I did not know that this script was used when clicking on the lock screen button!
I gave a look a the script. It loops through some xscreensavers in the below order and the first one that fits locks the screen.
For me the first of these commands that works is light-locker-command and that is what I get.
The guy in the discussion you mention probably has installed "xscreensaver" as solution.

@LibreGhost:
If you choose to use "xscreensaver" as suggestion you can install it from synaptic.
The installation program may do the setup, but if you need to do that manually, or change your mind about the current active screensaver you can configure it:
Applications -> Settings -> Settings Editor-> xfce-session -> general -> lock command.
You can put the command in there, as shown in the script snippet above.
(The line in the script: LOCK_CMD=$(xfconf-query -c xfce4-session -p /general/LockCommand) will select that entry as first option.

Some computers are "smart" and will not just shut down the screen after some inactivity, but also put other devices like disk, wifi etc. in saving mode.
This should not stop network activity completely, but could cause issues. but if it stops immediatly it must be something else

You might have figured out the issue, it has to be something with "xflock4". I'm not that conformable yet to screw around with that as of now, still a newbie, also right now I am using Mint MATE instead, since it works just fine in that DE, really wish I wouldn't have such a minor issue/reason to stop using XFCE, really needed something more lightweight, MATE will do for now.

Hey

I'm an IT Apprentice which got the job to change the lock screen on all our W10 Pro computers using GPO. I have tried to make a Reg key and using a GPO (Not at the same time)
"SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization" where I used a UNC path to the JPG file
And the GPO that are placed:
"Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization\Force a specific default lock screen and logon image" I changed this to "Enabled"

But after this did not work and I went for my best buddy Mr.Google and it seems like the GPO function for this job isn't working for W10 pro only Education and Enterprise?

So do the GPO even work now? Or should I go for Powershell?

This is possible for Windows 10 Pro but you cannot doit by setting the Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates> Control Panel > Personalization > Force a specific default lockscreen and logon image GPO setting.

Hi everybody, just upgraded to Android 13 on my new FP4 and noticed that the shortcuts for the camera and flashlight have disappeared. Anybody having the same issue? And any idea how to get these shortcuts back to lockscreen?

Since updating my FP4 to Android 13 (C.073), the lock screen is missing the camera and phone symbol. Before the update, bottom left showed a phone symbol and bottom right showed a camera symbol. With the camera symbol, I could easily open the camera from lock screen without unlocking the device.

I use xfce4-screensaver and lock my screen via xfce4-power-manager inactivity timeouts. After my system update and a reboot, the lock screen flashes and is very hard if not impossible to recover from.

I then went to xfce4-screensaver-preferences and enabled the screen locking. My screensaver kicked in at the appropriate time. But was unable to lock it due to flashing and not getting focus on the user/pass dialog. Ended up ctrl-alt-F2, logging in, and killing xfce4-screensaver in the other session.

If Norton prompted you to use a screen lock, it would have sent you to the setting in Android Settings. So you need to go to Android Settings > Lock Screen. Then tap on Screen Lock Type. Enter your current security PIN or whatever you set up. Then tap on None to remove the lock setting for your device.

How long have you had your Yale lock for? If you are still under warranty, I would suggest looking into a replacement if its available with them. It sounds like this may be an issue that may be affecting the screen specifically then.

I found a vulnerability affecting seemingly all Google Pixel phones where if you gave me any locked Pixel device, I could give it back to you unlocked. The bug just got fixed in the November 5, 2022 security update.

It was a fresh boot, and instead of the usual lock icon, the fingerprint icon was showing. It accepted my finger, which should not happen, since after a reboot, you must enter the lock screen PIN or password at least once to decrypt the device.
