Besides, if you loaded the ISO file itself in Write mode, wouldn't you still be prompted to place in a layer break when you start the burn? The LB info won't be saved to a file but it will be burned to the disc. I'd think all you'd need a .DVD or .MDS file for is for mounting the ISO in a virtual disc drive. And, in one of those, the layer break shouldn't matter.

I'm afraid I'm not qualified on the contents of what a .MDS file contains. So, I don't know if it's suitable for what you're asking for or not. I haven't used .MDS since I used to use Alcohol 52% as my virtual disc drive software. I switched to Virtual CloneDrive. So, I don't know what a .MDS contains, like the layer break info. The only time I create .MDS files is if I need to read a multipart image into DVD Shrink without mounting it, which is rare.

In the screenshots above, you are looking at the images made by ImgBurn as they appear in DVD Decrypter when attached to a virtual drive (Virtual CloneDrive), with Any DVD inactive (first screenshot) vs. Any DVD active in the background (second screenshot). I have used a virtual drive to speed up the reading and testing process.

Image files generated with CloneBD/CloneDVD/CloneCD or other applications like ImgBurn can be mounted onto a virtual drive from your hard-disk or from a network drive and used in the same manner as inserting them into a normal CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive.

This sounds much like the old game "Gazillionaire" from Lavamind. It will run equally well on anything from W95 through at least Win7, but must have the disc in the drive. I have never found a No-CD patch, nor any instructions for running the game without the CD; installing the basic game then copying all files to the install folder does nothing; I've heard even mounting a virtual drive doesn't work.

Recent events (increase in processor speed, lower cost terabyte disk storage, RAID drive functionality, etc.) have made it easier to store the ISO files directly to hard drive, in effect creating large-scale DVD media servers. Playback of these ISO files can be done directly on a network connected computer running a virtual DVD ROM emulator (like Daemon Tools Lite), or even through open source media systems (like XBMC).

A long time has passed since I wrote the last DVD Decrypter guide so I decided to write a completely new one. By now DVD Decrypter is the most complete ripper - despite what the outdated ripper comparison says - and it can do much more than rip. It can do various things with your DVD drives as changing the region, create an image of any DVD disc that you can mount as a virtual disc drive using tools like Daemon Tools, and it can even write these DVD images (provided they fit onto a DVD-5).

Alcohol 120%, is a powerful Windows CD and DVD burning software that makes it easy to create backups of DVDs* and CDs. Additionaly, the program lets you store your most used CDs as images on your computer, and you can mount them on 1 of the 31 virtual drives with a click of a button.

At the office: Program discs and many other applications generally require the original disc to be in the computer's CD-ROM drive. This restricts the amount of people in your office who can have access to the same software at the same time without the cost of additional discs. MagicDisc virtual drives resolve that problem for you. No more hunting around the offices for that elusive disc you need to run your application, everything you require is just a click away.

PowerISO is one of the most popular image file processing tools for Windows PCs. With this program, you can easily view the contents of BD/DVD/CD image files. In addition, you can extract data, and encrypt, split, compress, or burn. PowerISO can also be used to create customized image files to be mounted on virtual drives. The program supports more than ISO file format, also including DAA, NRG, BIN, and CDI.

With PowerISO, you can customize various elements in the process. Directly from the installation menu, the tool gives you multiple choices for configuration. Before the intuitive setup process ends, you need to define file associations, choose whether you want to auto-mount or auto-start the app upon startup, and set the specific number of virtual drives.

According to users of PowerISO, the ISO functionality in the program works perfectly. You can rename, delete, and add files or provide boot information. Moreover, the drag-and-drop function is quite useful for creating virtual drives.

Mounting an iso image simply means creating a virtual CD/DVD ROM drive that Windows can access just like a physical CD/DVD drive. When required, you could use that drive like you would use the disc, without requiring the actual disc.

In addition to ISO to DVD burning, this free ISO burner is also capable of extracting digital MP3, FLAC, APE, WMA, and more from CDs, create CDs using audio files, extract files from ISO, etc. It can even function as a virtual drive.

A new virtual DVD drive will appear in File Explorer (in our case, it is assigned the drive letter E:). Navigate to the E:\Sources\ folder, find the install.esd file and copy it to your local drive to the C:\ESD folder.

You can access ISO files in a virtual drive with UltraISO. The platform will let you mount an ISO format to an emulated drive. Ultra ISO is compatible with various different virtual drives. You can hold multiple emulated devices within the system at the same time.
