I've always thought that Starcraft 2 was Always Online, but I was talking to a college today and I found out there was an offline mode which just lacks access to achievements or custom maps (like I care for either).

I was able to play SC2 offline all the way up until just recently, the last update seems to have made it where you have to connect to battlenet and authenticate your game, which is extremely annoying because my internet doesn't always work good.

As of this posting, you cannot play offline... even if you want to play local games, and have logged on multiple times in the past, StarCraft 2 still REQUIRES you be online and log in to Battle.net, even to play in "offline" mode.

I stated in the first post that, while writing this whole thing up, I did get onto the servers and into the game (though my connection wasnt strong enough to be allowed to play anything), but it still says I need to authenticate to play offline.

Status : Solved
I just make the shortcut
"Game Path\Starcraft II.exe" Mapname.SC2map
But Map must be in same folder of starcraft II
(Still don't know where's default path of custom map , try to change but don't work)

I have made some single player custom maps (with a mod)
and there are many maps chaining together (like campaign) when I play as editor I just put them in same folder and set next map then it works

2. my maps must start with correct Start map to works (like campaign) there's only me who know which map is , they also need my custom mod to play (the mod is very large size , about 70mb) but my account is limitted to 50 mb

The game can be played offline with some restrictions, but there are steps that you will need to follow in order to do so that require an internet connection to complete. The game can only be played offline if you have logged into the online, retail version of Starcraft 2 within the last 30 days. If you have done so and would like to play offline, follow these steps:

Keep in mind that none of the Battle.net options will be available to you while playing in offline mode, so you won't be able to speak to friends, play against other plays, earn achievements or change your stat records.

Hello, I've been trying for the past day or 2 to get Sc2 HoTs to work.. I used the new crack, installed the new cache, and tried to login in with the off...@sc2allin1.net account.. however every time it tells me the same message "Starcraft II Starer edition can't play in Offline mode"... if I use my junk account it tells me "Authorization Required, says i need to connect to bnet to authorize my client, and I need at least one character on my account"

I just did some messing around and got the game to work vs bots, using the flt keygen and crack, however it doesent display campaign, which is fine cause i've already played and beat it, and i'm not sure it it includes the new maps, but I got it to work playing bots, so thats good enough for me until i figure something out 2morrow or another day, anyways gnite

Hi, I'm in the same situation, except that I run under intel.
I applied two tutorials to the letter (first : Snify's Starcraft II Loader. second : StarCraft II Licence Generator works with all versions)to one Result: Starcraft2 discovery edition does not work in offline mode connection!

Basically update game to latest patch.
Run the game once with Internet connection, than exit.
Start Sc2 WITHout Internet connection, Than exit
Than Start Sc2 WITH Internet and log into your junk battle.net account. ( if you don't have one make one, and make sure the sc2 starter edition is on there )
Once you login wait a few seconds than exit.
Than open up the FLT keygen, click option 3 "Copy files" and than click "generate", than exit teh keygen.

Hi.. i have a problem... i opened StarTCraft (v.1.0.3) but it doesn't recognise the istalled game... it appears "Game Version: xxxxxxxxx" and "Game Language xxxxxx"... i don't know what to do.. please help:(

and JiDe im not using the StarTcraft loader, im using the FLT keygen and Snify Loader ( the older one ) and thats it, so if ur using the other than my directions may not work for u, if you use my directions and just the FLT keygen it may work, let me know.

I hadn't touched SC2 since early 2012, so maybe this happened a while ago, but did they remove the option to run custom maps through single player mode*? You definitely could before, but I'm not seeing that option on the new (to me) interface.

@bbalpert: I believe it's in the custom games tab or you might in the versus A.I. in the matchmaking tab. There is no save/loading, but you can pause whenever. It kind of sucks, but for me, it's not a big deal.

What do you mean by "single player mode"? If you mean against an AI or no one else, just enter "custom games", choose "create game" on the map you want and don't open it up to the public. If you mean offline, then you must have already downloaded the map previously, but the method should be the same. You can also right click on a map and choose "create offline game" but I don't actually see how that's different to "create game".

@mrpandaman: Alright thanks, I just wasn't sure if I was missing something. Overall, the saving is not too a big deal, but there are some kinds of maps where it is kind of a bummer. Specifically RPG maps and Impossible Scenario maps, where you need basically perfect micro or you're boned.

@bbalpert: If you look in the Arcade tab, some maps do have those RPG and those scenario that you can play after you've downloaded them in the custom games tab if I'm also not mistaken there as well. Again, I'm not sure about those since I don't type of maps that often.

The Arcade interface is pretty neat looking, and the "pick up from here" function for replays is a really great feature, but it is NOT a replacement for the simple "click on the map that you want to play and go" interface. The hell, Blizzard?

This is our vision for esports. This is the ESL Pro Tour for StarCraft II, a yearly competition that combines the past legacies of Blizzard, DreamHack, and ESL. Now in our fourth year SC2 fans can expect the same professional competitions and excitement, while also being able to look forward to a brand new championship event at the Esports World Cup. Our end goal is simple:

The ESL Pro Tour is a circuit combining all major StarCraft II tournaments which will be connected by a ranking system into one narrative that builds towards the EPT Championship. The EPT structure includes weekly online cups open for everyone, online regional competition with the best players from every major region, and the offline events where the best players from all over the world come together.

The ESL Pro Tour is a circuit combining all major StarCraft II tournaments which will be connected by a ranking system into one narrative that builds towards the EPT Championship. With this change to our offering we will have a more complete and simpler path from zero to hero for aspiring players, a more compelling story to follow for existing StarCraft II fans and a much more transparent structure for new esports fans. This will be the ultimate expression of our purpose: to create a world where everybody can be somebody.

Already gained EPT points will be taken to the players respective division. Example: Serral with 600 global EPT points will take his points to the European division to compete for the allotment to the Masters Championship.

I am so verbose here because I want to make clear that I have thought very carefully about this local play issue and have tried consider both points of view. Since I assume they do not lie to us face to face, I suppose that they really want to do us good. Then, I have to say frankly: Blizzard, give us local play or you will get your noses bloodied (figuratively). I see the following ways to approach a solution.

If you really do not want to reconsider your position in this matter, please do at the very least this: extend battle.net such that it is capable of supporting parties. Let us create lobbies and tournaments with access control so that we can meet in battle.net as well when we meet in flesh in order to easily match up.

I really hope something will change with regard to local play since I do not think the extended community will tolerate it for long. But then, maybe Blizzard does not care about LAN parties any more and are even prepared to take the losses caused. When I mailed them asking in which way they supported release events, I got no answer.

So, DRM comes along to fight piracy, Starcrafts biggest piracy is LAN play, through cheats and hacks it allows people to run their own (unauthenticated) version of Battle.net, effectively allowing any number of people to play their product for free, outside of their control.

Please note that this was not my argument for removing DRM, but a statement made by people I invited to a SCII event. I do _not_ advocate privacy. I _do_ advocate, however, the possibility for free trial and offline (multiplayer) play.

I strongly believe that providing quality will always pay off. Would you have given your SC or WCIII CD key away to people that wanted to play online? No, because the games are so awesome you want to play them yourself. Did you give them to people that wanted to try the game out? Yes, you most certainly did.

Again, the number of pirating players does not imply any profit loss. Those guys might never have bought the game, anyway, but now they know the product and the company. This is free advertisement!
Again: I do not say that to justify piracy, but I consider it an argument for companies not to care too much.
