Gustavus Broadband Update: Holiday Hiatus

Holiday Hiatus 

November saw little action on the Gustavus Broadband Project.

• We have no new news regarding faster, cheaper upstream Internet access.
  
• We are watching the Federal Communications Commission closely but expect to wait for some time (possibly a year or more) before the Connect America Fund enters Phase 2.
  
• GCN staff and board chair have briefed the mayor and city council regarding the last month's strategy discussions.
  
• There has been no action to seek funding for the design phase of the broadband project.
  

Next Steps 

• Resume discussions with potential middle mile provider(s).
  
• Continue watching FCC, though we expect no action in the near future.
  
• Proceed with plan revisions and design phase (only) if and when cheaper, faster upstream Internet access becomes imminent.
