hello everybody, we build a boat. Now we would like to make a topographic map for seaground about 30 meters depth. We had pixhawk 2.4.8 and raspberry pi 3b+. We would like to purchase garmin striker plus 4 fish finder for mapping. Do you have any idea can we use this device or do you have any suggestion as much as cheaper?

On my particular boat with Lowrance totalscan it runs completely independent of my pixhawk & boat electronics. I hit record on the lowrance screen and then send the boat off. I use a cheap analog FPV system with video just to see if the red record button is still blinking. Using reefmaster you can create a map in that program or export a CSV to use better mapping software (Arcmaps or arcGIS).

What the Striker Vivid 9 is not so excellent at, on the other hand, is mapping. In the pros and cons, we mention that there are no maps included with the unit, and no way of adding maps. You might expect this mapping section to be pretty short.

Yes, you can download maps on the Striker 4 GPS fishfinder. You can either download maps directly to the Striker 4 or use the built-in microSD card slot to load maps onto the device. The Striker 4 comes preloaded with BlueChart g2 HD marine charts for the U.S. coast.

Yes, the Garmin Striker 4 has maps. The Striker 4 comes preloaded with LakeVü HD maps of over 17,000 lakes in the U.S. with bathymetric contours. It also has a quick-release mount so you can take it with you when you leave the boat.

Please note that the Garmin STRIKER series are not chartplotter/mapping devices. These units do not come with detailed maps nor can you add mapping to them. If you need a unit with mapping capability please look at the echoMAP or GPSMAP series.

Clear, colorful sonar with vivid color options to see fish and structure. Built-in sonar to get Garmin CHIRP traditional sonar and CHIRP clearVU scanning sonar. Waypoint marking to catch more fish with waypoint marking for hot spots so you can easily find your way back. High-sensitivity GPS to plan and create routes and view your boat's speed. Quickdraw contours to store up to 2 million acres of maps with 1' contours. Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv includes a tilt/swivel mount plus transom and trolling motor mounting hardware and cable.

Some skepticism existed when Garmin released the original STRIKER series a few years ago. These were, and are still, stripped-down versions of the Echomap UHD series. Would anglers want a fish finder with updated sonar capabilities but no maps or data storage?

You are limited to making your own contour maps with Quickdraw Contours. All things considered, that is a lot better than nothing. And besides, if you really need the maps, step up to the Echomap UHD series. A Striker fish finder is a value unit, after all.

With a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv fishfinder/chartplotter combo not only will you be able to find more fish, but you also have the ability to navigate with ease with preloaded BlueChart g3 US Coastal Charts. Like the STRIKER models mentioned above, it also includes Quickdraw Contours, which gives you the ability to create custom maps on the fly. 500W of transmitting power coupled with traditional, ClearVü and SideVü CHIRP delivers stunning views of fish and structure on the 400 x 800 sunlight-readable, color WVGA screen. Designed to accept a variety of CHIRP transducers to meet your fishing needs and type of boat.

These fish finders will also take all the data from the GPS and sonar features and create your own maps with it using the quickdraw contours mapping software. The quickdraw contours feature allows you to build 1 ft contour maps of the areas you fish and the detail is spot on.

The second difference is that the Garmin Striker 4 does not come with QuickDraw self-mapping software and the Garmin Striker 4 Plus does. With the Garmin Striker 4, you can still use GPS and build waypoint maps with it, but you will not be able to build contour maps of your fishing area or access the Garmin QuickDraw community.
