Just for you to know, I'm using a Windows server 2003 platform, and a batch file seemed the best choice. I don't mind using something else, and would be very open to suggestions, but just for the sake of knowledge (as a zombie craves brains, I thought, why not inflate my own), is there a command that allows me to check on the status of a service, in command line?

Well I'm not sure about whether you can email the results of that from a batch file. If I may make an alternate suggestion that would solve your problem vbscript. I am far from great with vbscript but you can use it to query the services running on the local machine. The script below will email you the status of all of the services running on the machine the script gets run on. You'll obviously want to replace the smtp server and the email address. If you're part of a domain and you run this script as a privileged user (they have to be an administrator on the remote machine) you can query remote machines as well by replacing localhost with the fqdn.

To check activation status in Windows 11, select the Start button, and then select Settings > System and then select Activation . Your activation status will be listed next to Activation.

To check activation status in Windows 10, select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security and then select Activation . Your activation status will be listed next to Activation.

The trick here is to have a proper grep available, so that in this way you can catch the true/false (success) status of command. Here -q is for silent and -o is for just returning the exact match and can probably be omitted. And yes, you need to put your "sc.exe" in your PATH.

My colleague's computer (Windows 10) is showing weird sizing effects for multiple parts of Windows. As seen in the image, the Explorer status bar font is too large, and the Quick Launch icons are too large. In addition, some pop up menus have massive text, and likely related Word's document navigation pane text is too large.

I have also tried cutting out the batch file and putting net or net.exe in the program/script field, and start tssdis in the arguments, putting "net start tssdis" with speech marks in the program field with nothing in the arguments field, and putting C:\windows\system32\ in the Start in field. Nothing works - the task continues to return a 0x2 error.

Hi,I have been trying to get the windows updates sensor working for windows servers. We are hosting several windows machines for customers that are NOT part of a domain. Our PRTG server can connect to all those servers through a management gateway, but I have not been able to get the windows updates sensor working.

Furthermore: in the PRTG for the sensor to work on a windows machine, you need to enter the windows-machine credentials WITH the computername as the domain.
So every windows machine needs its own credentials, you cannot use the root with credentials to work on all servers. that doesnt work.
And the sensors need to have Negotiate authentication NOT the default Kerberos authentication

I am not entirely sure if this works in every situation, but it works for me, so yeah, great to have this sensor added and working now.

Getting 'test failed with "unknown" status' on a Windows PowerShell Monitor such as the one below. This happens on multiple nodes, local or remote host, etc. Orion does get the stats back as evident from the screenshots - so why doesn't it get the exit code? Or is something else at play?

Open this folder to display all of the contents of your All Files page on Box.com. You can navigate through any folder and open every file you see just as if it were a local file. Box Drive icons tell you at a glance the status of your files and folders.

Hi. I'm getting the Windows Infrastructure App up and running and in one of the events, I am getting a failure on ta_windows_action. The event was a process creation that showed success. Is there some sort of documentation (searched here and on Google) that explains what that field is (or others...basically a reference.) Thanks!

I have noticed the same thing, but in the Splunk_TA_windows app. I guess the same logic applies to the Infra as well. There is an EVAL in props.conf that sets the field ta_windows_action based on the value of Status. And if there is no match a default value of "failure" is set. So the meaning of "failure" is basically "failure to set a proper value in this field ". Which, in my opinion, is confusing. It should say "unknown" or just leave it blank. Also the coverage of this field in the logs seems very low so a lot of the events has this field set to failure.

When you have an application that relies on a specific Windows service being up and running, knowing the status of this service can be a useful part of your observability solution. This service status data can be displayed on dashboards, used to create alarms, or used to trigger automated resolutions.

You can manually trigger the Scheduled Task and check that it populates the log file (C:\temp\spooler-service-status.log) with the service status event. Note: it may take a minute or two for the script to run and the event to be written to the log file.

The CloudWatch agent should now be running on your Amazon EC2 instances, ingesting any data sent to the log file at C:\temp\spooler-service-status.log into the CloudWatch log Group called Test/Windows/ServiceStatus.

Similarly, create a metric filter to capture any event which has a status that is NOT Running. Recall that we are creating a single metric (called IsRunning), which will have different values depending on the service status, so leave the Metric name as IsRunning.

If you want to RDP onto the instance created through the CloudFormation you can RDP using Fleet Manager (within AWS Systems Manager).
Note that we leave you to update the CloudWatch alarm with the notification actions to avoid unnecessary initial noise when no data is available for the service status checks.

Visualize your data: Now you have both log and metric data, you can visualize this in CloudWatch dashboards, adding widgets like those shown in Figure 7. Here we have widgets to display the history of the service status, the current status, the alarm status, and a text widget giving some context to the data.

You could avoid the creation and push of log events from the Amazon EC2 instances, to a pull model where a scheduled AWS Lambda function could request the service status from the instances. The Lambda function could then use the PutMetrics API to send the information straight to CloudWatch metrics. This approach only needs a Lambda function, a CloudWatch alarm, and the Amazon SNS topic. With a Lambda function you have flexibility in your choice of language to code in. This solution may be easier to maintain for your needs.

In this post we have presented a solution for gathering data on Windows service status and using this to notify us when the service is not running. We have suggested some ways you may wish to build on this approach. Finally we explored other ways you may choose to implement this solution, depending on your requirements and resources

The status of my windows and my doors is reversed in Apple Homekit. When the windows are open, they are shown as closed, and when the windows are closed, they are shown as open in Homekit. So the status is reversed. In Openhab, the state is displayed correctly. How can this problem be solved?
I use Openhab 3.0.1 with the binding from Livisi (innogy)Unbenannt-116541022 126 KB

doors and windows are working exactly in the same way. it is copy&paste code. so, should work with inverted in the same way.
do you use the same item type? e.g. switch or contact for both, window and door?

Another question. When I open the window now, it is correctly displayed as open in Homekit. However, it still says an opening rate of 1%. But there is actually only one open and closed status for me. How can I remove the percentage?

Door and Window in homekit are motorized doors and windows, which have current and target open state in percentage. you can add current / target position and set them to 0% or 100% depending on status (open/close). e.g. using rules.

The first is configuring the statuses. For example, set whether Authors see the Reviews and Meta-Reviews or not when a particular status is enabled for their particular paper.
Additionally, paper status names can be modified and/or new ones can be added.CMT has five default paper statuses.
They are Awaiting Decision; Accept; Reject; Desk Reject; Revision, Withdrawn.
Most conferences do not need to change these names, however custom paper statuses can be created to accommodate conference needs.
The Accept, Desk Reject and Revisions statuses are all defaulted to show Reviews and Meta-Reviews to the authors. This can also be changed if desired.

Task Scheduler 1.0 is included with Windows NT 4.0[7] (with Internet Explorer 4.0 or later), Windows 2000,[7] Windows XP[8] and Windows Server 2003.[9] It runs as a Windows Service, and the task definitions and schedules are stored in binary .job files. Tasks are manipulated directly by manipulating the .job files. Each task corresponds to single action. On Windows 95 (with Internet Explorer 4.0 or later), Windows 98 and Windows Me, the Task Scheduler runs as an ordinary program, mstask.exe. It also displays a status icon in the notification area on Windows 95 and Windows 98 and runs as a hidden service on Windows Me, but can be made to show a tray icon.[1] Computer programs and scripts can access the service through six COM interfaces.[10] Microsoft provides a scheduling agent DLL, a sample VBScript and a configuration file to automate Task Scheduler.[11]
