Excerpts from the spotty emails we have received:

Dec 14: "We won't get internet in our house until at least next week.   Dad went to McDonalds to get wi-fi to send this.   So we won't be skyping anyone this Sunday. We're working hard and all is well.   The members have been wonderful to us. We'll tell you more when we get the internet."

Dec 16: "We found a member who will let us use the internet in their home . . . Yahoo! We have been higher than the clouds and as low as under water - we miss you all soooooooo much. The Spirit is strong and I cry a lot. Love, Allyson"

Description of their journey from Zurich to Singen on their first day:

"Clint and I shared a bratwurst and I have to say it was tasty. At one end was a 40 foot live tree decorated with hundreds of crystals
shimmering and reflecting all the colors of the people and wares. I loved the ambiance of the whole experience even with 30 hours without sleep and 15 F freezing temperature. We boarded the train to Singen beyond exhausted but brimming with anticipation.

The train stopped, our missionary badges identified us, and before we knew it we were handed a stunning bouquet of orange and yellow flowers ( how did they know my favorite colors) by Sister Schaffer and tears of joy and hugs enveloped us. It was snowing gently, as we drove to our new home. Everything was covered with a deep snow through rolling hills and forests.

Six members greeted us with warm hugs and kisses on both sides of your cheeks. Lit candles were on window sills and goodies were on the table all made from members of the ward. We sat down and ate yummy homemade pumpkin soup. They talked about how excited they were for us to come. The branch had been working hard to make our house a home. We could not have been more overwhelmed and excited. There are woods just down the road that are inviting to explore on a warmer day. It is very cold.

The members left and we tried to unpack with extreme fatigue. We both had slept about zero in the last 30 hours. We were delirious and collapsed at about 11:00."

More to come . . .
