Principal Adam Littlefield said that the new physics teachers will be creating their own lessons and curriculum to replace Edgenuity for the second semester. However, for the rest of first semester, the teachers will review Edgenuity material to get students caught up, forgoing a final. The last day of Edgenuity for physics classes was Dec. 7.
With Spanish 2, specifically, Edgenuity did not offer the speaking practice which builds the foundation of the course. However, all of the students are on track to finishing the semester curriculum, assistant principal Irma Muoz said.
At the start of the school year, PHS had six sections of Spanish 2 that were using Edgenuity. After the first progress report, Spanish teacher Jessica McMillen filled five of the sections and taught without Edgenuity.
Callerame will begin teaching five classes, full-time, at the start of second semester. While the administration initially hired him in October with the intent that he would teach full-time, complications lead him to teach three classes, Littlefield said.
Science teacher and PHS alumnus Teddy Mefford will take over for science teacher Sara Plowman during her maternity leave second semester. He will teach three classes at MHS: biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as a co-taught biology class with teacher Andy Willats, Littlefield said.
Edgenuity supplies two grades, a grade based only on assessments and assignments and one based on completion. The final grade will reflect assessment and assignment scores as well as any work that was done before or after Edgenuity. The percentage of the final grade based on Edgenuity will correlate with the percentage of time spent working with it, Littlefield said.
Another addition to the staff is long-term social studies substitute Alex Geller who will be taking over for social studies teacher Todd Berry during his single-semester extended leave to take care of his newborn, Littlefield said.
Geller has been working with Berry and social studies teacher Alison Cota to make sure that he covers the curriculum planned for the modern world history and U.S. history classes to the best of his ability, Geller said.
i totally agree! A dumb edinutity video is playing in the background while reading this. Its stupid. everthing is so outdated and you can tell that the videos were made in 2011 and havent been updated since. Even all the answers are getting marked wrong becasue of how outdated it is.
yes the platform is very mundane and for my course spanish it used spanish but from spain when we are taking a mexican spanish class and then we get the questions wrong while we knew the right answer in the first place
Im in 11th grade and its made doing assignments on time so hard but ive learned so many little hacks to get done with stuff faster , for example on the practice assignments if you just type i dont know in the sentence boxes it will just mark it as 100 anyway and they dont usally give that many multiple choice parts depending on the class so i always pass the practice assignments with at least 80
I have been going threw the same stuff you have I have been so stressed and cried so many times over it when Edgenuity first started I tried to learn but it was so hard to the videos were so long at times and it made me so bored I thought it was just be because I already hate school and my attention span sucks but it was not really just me after all and there is a hack u can do to skip the videos! I learned one myself and i looked another on google here is the one I learned myself first: watch the video (not all the way) until it is the middle of the video pause it wait a few seconds then press the arrow button now that one might not work because it does not always work and the other on that I saw on google is: watch the video for a little bit at least 30-40 seconds after that pause it turn off ur internet on your laptop right when you do that turn it back on then press the refresh button then press the arrow button (that one does not always work nether) but good luck! and yes you might as well cheat and the grading for me is so damn slow to I did the exam and got a 76% on it but my grade is still 68.8% its so annoying
That is why you should pay attention. But also, maybe some schools cannot afford to use another program, or that is all they can work with. After working on Edge for about 2 of my first High school years, it gets really REALLY boring.
Spanish classes work really well, but computer applications can be quite confusing and frustrating. When hands-on assignments come on, you just gotta do what you can. Talk with your teacher, leave in some notes about how you tried to do what you could.
Oh, and the whole REACH and Edge thing is just bias. The person who wrote this article hated Edge because their kid failed to adapt to the change and to take the hint that each videos information lets you progress through the assignments easily.
I am a student and I HATE Edgenuity so much! It is incredibly stressful and the people teaching over-complicate the material, especially for Math and Science! I am always so close to tears while doing Edgenuity. Edgenuity is one of the worst education platforms and even my teachers agree that Edgenuity is terrible. I am lucky that they try to use google classroom as much as possible instead of Edgenuity. Overall, I would NOT recommend Edgenuity and I feel bad for anyone else who has been forced to use it.
I can honestly relate to most things in this article. I am in 7th grade and only do Math and Reading. Guess what both of the courses are. BAD. The videos go so slowly and all the material used are things that I learned from 4th-5th grade.
not gunna lie everything that other people said 1-2 years ago still apply to edgenuity. out dated, boring, to many assignment, me reading this will do my assignments. it all a bunch of bs. i hate this site.
I actually like edginuity opposed to other platforms because its super easy and im really busy during the day, im 14 and I got expelled from school so im stuck doing online for a while. im able to make money and go to work and still stay on top of my grades
Edgenuity is actually one of the most horrible apps that my district ever implied. It is mostly outdated, the videos that are UNSKIPPABLE are totally excruciating and unengaging. There is no new pattern more like a boring cycle, listen to a 5-minute boring video, answer questions, watch another video, answer questions, quiz, unit test, and then test again. It is horrible and the teaching style is so unbearable. Some kids learn faster than others, and how horribly slow Edgenuity is making me so angry. I read at a faster pace than the video and have to wait MINUTES before I can even skip the video, which is ridiculous. I have to listen to some man/woman talk before I can even answer a question when I already KNOW the answer, or am eager to answer so I have to wait a while to even answer them.
Helping a granddaughter with her virtual classes from graves county Kentucky we found that every time the answers were incorrect in their curriculum so in challenging them we could not get anyone from their customer service to answer us back. There was no real person for feedback nor would they change her grade after we challenged their tests. It was really the most pathetic Virtual School that anyone could have acquired. I hope the school did not waste their time on it after covid. I think this program should have reimbursed everyone for their money if they paid any
