Stardock released Groupy 2, an app that brings a universal tab experience to Windows 10 and 11 today. Groupy 2 is a powerful tool for Windows 10 and 11 that keeps information organized by allowing users to drag and drop multiple applications and documents together which combines into a single window, with tabs showing in the title bar.

Multiple tab designs take personalization another step further, allowing users to stylize their experience in a way that best suits their preferences. Groupy 2's updated design matches the Windows 11 interface, providing a sleek and modern look, and its enhanced functionality supports seamless integration with File Explorer.

I get notification from Groupy a new version is available. I choose to download and install. Then I get error message "Failed to authenticate Groupy with Steam. Please ensure that Steam is logged in with a working internet connection and try again." There is a "(Result Code: -10)" at the end of the message. My internet connection is good. I do not use Steam at all. I'm not a Steam user (ahhhh, the horror!).

Thanks for the information. I found file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Groupy\SasSteam.ini", so I renamed it by adding ".bak" to the end of the file name. Launched the Groupy Settings app, About, Check for Update... It said I was up to date. All I did previously when I got the initial error message "Failed to Authenticate Groupy with Steam...", I cancelled from that screen. It appears it installed/updated anyway once I cancelled the error message pop-up. Posting this detail in case it helps someone else.

I'm somewhat dismayed by all the posts about not being able to group. My issue is just the opposite. Every single window for every application opens with the Groupy header (plus sign & three vertical dots), including explorer.exe windows that I have Automatically exclude from auto grouping all 'explorer.exe' windows. In fact, if I have such an explorer.exe window open and merely drag it across another app's window or drag another apps window across it, going nowhere near the top menu bar grouping error it will often (but not always, entirely random), it will spontaneously group. Since there appears to be no way to remove one window from a group without shutting down the entire group and rebuilding it, at the end of the day, I will have lots of apps with multiple instances open because I'll need to have the ability to move a single window of the app to a specific location, it keeps grouping. How do I stop windows from grouping without uninstalling Groupy? How do I split off one window from a group?

2- I want to make a group with web but not lose the website. I keep my tables in excels, draws in CAD, and texts in word, but when i use groupy with website. it just go to google page as if i didnt visit any website. I want to keep my webs as my searchs, facebook, but mainly my gmail page with differents accounts. I cant do that bc only webpage save the last page visited so its a L for me using groupy. If Groupy 2 can save webpages when group id be glad to buy it.

1- being honest if u were sellers you would fail. Just answer the question Why would i buy groupy 2, having groupy 1? I just saw a point in the video ad in steam but its not worthy to buy. im looking for: we fix bugs as "black bar pixel dead" or we added website to be saved in groups or we made UI easier (shows the comparative). most people who dont know programming it will get bored reading all "features u added or fixed without an easy explanation. The best way to explain is with vids or image as i can see in some case.

1- i think u as devs u know what feature are new from old groupy. As a user i just saw from vids that are just "grouped colors (some browsers can do it), the ctrl z button (is a good point) and the taskbar. But srsly if smth that u can do it as an update. im not seeing big feautres tbh. id like u tell me (explaining) and not just make me read texts.

I just installed Groupy on my Win 10 x64 box. It's doing great. However one old app (FileBack PC 4.1) I have and still frequently use, looks to be somehow incompatible with it when Groupy is on (the window keeps disappearing, program response very slow, ...). Note that I am NOT trying to Group it with anything or even use Groupy with it -- I just want to use it "normally". I added it to the list of Application Exclusions, but still have the problem. Is there some way I can prevent Groupy from trying to do anything with this program, so I can get back to its normal behavior?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try this, get "FileBack PC" group with anything. eg Windows explorer. While your "FileBack PC" tab is active click on the 3 dot tabs : Choose "Automatically exclude from auto grouping all "FileBack.exe windows. Please refer to s/shot below as an example.

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed. Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Rebooting didn't help. Also after grouping Thunderbird windows, often things are not working there -- clicking on reply to a message, right clicking on some buttons, and even the top File menu. Sometimes I can regain functionality by ungrouping a Thunderbird window, but not consistently. This is a stopper for me since I spend a lot of my time in Thunderbird. I'd like to keep what Groupy brings but can't have it massively interfere with my activities. FileBack is not a stopper since I don't interact with it often.

I'm now trying ungrouping Thunderbird and putting it on the Application Exclusions list, and I'll let you know if I run into problems there (with Groupy problems often didn't happen at first, but after some time). But if you have any suggestions on how to overcome this, I'm all ears.

OK, Thunderbird seems to be working OK since I disabled it in Groupy. But FileBack still doing very strange things: window disappears for 15 secs and re-appears, normal actions slow. Also when interacting with it, my Chrome window where I"m typing this, also disappears and reappears. That seems to ONLY happen when I'm interacting with FileBack and typing into a Chrome window (e.g. this reply). It looks like the 2 windows are somehow confused temporarily. Anyhow I can live with this since I don't often change FileBack settings.

Occasionally I see Excel (it's Groupy'd) menus unresponsive, e.g. File, but if I move the tab outside and come back in, all seems OK. I'm so-far successfully using Groupy with Explorer, Evernote, TexNotes, and a couple other progs without problems.

Anyhow you get 5 stars for your support efforts -- wish more outfits were so conscientious. I'll continue with Groupy, but hope future versions might fix these annoyances. It's still a very useful tool for me. Let me know if you have other suggestions or a later version might overcome some of these.

One of the ways Groupy transforms your work flow is that you start to think in terms of TASKS instead of APPS. If my task is development, I will end up with a command prompt, an explorer window, source control and Visual Studio.

Over the course of the day I end up with lots of Office windows up. I will often attach an explorer window to these as well if I'm dealing with a lot of images (like when I types up my Christmas letter).

Wait what? Doesn't Chrome already have tabs? Yep. However, here's the problem, I quickly end up with a bunch of duplicate Chrome windows because I can't find an existing window. Now, just put them into categories.

Here I have my Google Calender, Gmail, Surfing, Google Docs and Reddit tabs. Within each one might be only 1 tab (like for the Calendar) or several (Google Docs). Sometimes I end up with an Edge tab too if I'm going through PDFs. On my Surface Pro, it's all via Edge as MS Edge is awesome on my Surface Pro 4.

OLE and such were developed during the time when 16 MEGAbytes was considered a lot of memory. Today, most users have over 4 GIGAbytes of memory so the idea of futzing around with components of other programs (who hasn't groaned when they've tried to paste an Adobe Photoshop image into a Word document...you know what I'm talking about!) is a little archaic.

I'm seeing a problem with Groupy where windows that I've grouped are un-grouped after the computer wakes from sleep mode. Specifically this happens with Outlook 2013 which is excluded from WindowBlinds and Chrome which is skinned by WindowBlinds. I can re-group Outlook and Chrome and they work fine together until the next time the computer sleeps. Any thoughts about this? TIA

I have been using Groupy with no problems for some years. Since the recent Windows 11 update (January 2023 for me) the Groupy Explorer interface has changed. This has happened for me on both my Surface Pro laptop and my home desktop - same setups both using Groupy. The title bar has been messed up visuallly, Quick Access seems to be renamed to Home, with My Computer renamed Desktop and I can no longer grab a Groupy window in Explorer and 'tear it' from a group to form a new window. Any ideas how to resolve this would be useful as the value of the product is seriously degraded by this problem.

EXPLANATION: Some programs tend to create a file named "Program" (with no extensions) in the root of your C:\ drive (or in my case it was the S:\ drive). It's unknown why they do this, but exploring this file with notepad or any text editor will often give you a clue of who the guilty party is within its nonsense code full of symbols and text. For me, it was the installation of a well known text-to-speech and speech-to-text program that goes by the name of a legendary and mythical serpent-like creature that I will not mention because I don't know if I'm allowed to. This "Program" file was the cause of the error and the inability to start the Stardock Groupy service. According to the sources I consulted within my research:
