to Guppy
Is there an officially approved way of executing Guppy direct from the
Git repository, i.e. without having to do an install -- it is not
sensible to have to do an install for every experimental change.

Thanks.

Yes. Just do the following:

cd guppy-checkout/
./guppy/guppy

There is a fake puppy which you can use for testing without actually
being connected to a PVR. To use the fake puppy just do:

export PATH=guppy-checkout/test/fakepuppy:$PATH
./guppy/guppy
