Hello Mr. Nate Suda,
Greetings.
My name is Sukeerthy and I am doing Master of Theology at SAIACS,
Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
In my readings from last couple of months, I found Colin Gunton very
interesting and something new. I believe that it is the plan of God
that I could come across a blog which has an everyday discussion on
Gunton. But, because I do not have much of his books with me, I
struggle to know his major theological assessments. In the following I
would mention few basic things about him which I understood from his
writing that I have with me. So, can you please correct them and also
if possible add to them his major theological assessments.
• He is a Trinitarian Thinker. His theology is Trinitarian theology.
• It is not that he describes the doctrine of Trinity, but looks at
every part of Christian theology from a Trinitarian perspective.
• The doctrine of Trinity is the foundational truth that leads to
every understanding. This also can mean that it is through the
doctrine of Trinity that we have to look at and understand the rest of
the doctrines of the Bible.
If you can add more of his theological assessments I would be grateful
to you. Also would you please give me your email so that I can
correspond to you directly. Of course, if my correspondence is worth
to put on your blog you can add that in the comments section of your
blog. Also, can you direct me for more sources on his theology and his
books. The reason is that I am planning to do my M. Th thesis. My
probable thesis title would be, “Trinitarian Theology: A Critical
Analysis on the theology of Colin Gunton and its Implications to
Indian Christian Thinkers/Indian Christian Trinitarian Thinkers.”
Your response is very needed to me. So please, contribute so that I
can make my thesis proposal better and learn from Gunton and apply
that to our Indian context. The reason is, I find Indian Christian
theology more on to Christological perspectives than Trinitarian
perspectives. So, I think it is very necessary for Indian theologians
to think Trinitarian. By the way, though the words Trinitarian
Thinking and Trinitarian Theology are often overlapping, do you think
both the terms same or any difference or it is based on our use
according to the context.
Thanks for bearing with my questions and looking for your sooner
reply.
