Creating vs. Making

This is a response to the posting on 8/29/06 by Stejahen.

Being an artist you might be interested in Colin's critique of modernity in regards to aesthetics and human agency. His take is that in the modern world we have a loss of the distinction between making and creating. The creator creates 'out of nothing' (ex nihilo) freely. Humans are not in the business of creating but rather making. The difference is not just semantics but guards against the tendency to self-divinization.

His thoughts on this subject can be found in his book “The One, the Three and the Many, God, Creation and the Culture of Modernity.”
