Thisis definitely above my present skill set, but in an effort to learn, I am interested in making a simple font file to use with the GLCD Version 3 library. I have had a look at some of the font header files and feel confident that if I just follow their basic structure, but add my own font data, I can get something working.

I cannot work out where these values come from. These are from the Arial 14 header file

The information you are seeing is from a variable width font and is in a comment.

It is merely informational. It describes the code values of first character the last lastvalue

and how many characters are actually used in the font.

I'd have to go look at the font generation tool to make sure but the reason the have the "used chars"

information is the variable fonts can have "holes" in it.

i.e. not all the characters between the first and last font characters are required to have

glyph definitions.

So when some characters dont' have definitions, there is a "hole" in the font and the number

of "used chars" between first and last will not be equal to last - first

so that is why there is a "used chars" in the comment.

If you want to play around with creating fonts, I recommend using the glcdfont creator tool.

It is a java gui tool that can create font header files for you from fronts that are installed

on your operating system. It does all the work for you.

You can find information about it in the included html documentation.

If you want create your own by hand you will need to look closer at the actual font data format.

Unfortunately right now there is no real documentation on the data format.

Here is a general overview:

The font data format currently consists of a 6 byte header that describes the font data format.

If the first two bytes are zero it is a fixed font if not it is variable.

The width and height bytes describe the rendered width and height of the font.

(The library uses 1 extra pixel below and to the right of these values for inter character gaps).

The pixel data is stored in the data bytes in the same order as the glcd data pages.

Vertically lsb to msb within each byte.

Then for each 8 pixels it goes from left to right in incrementing data bytes.

So the pixel data is top to bottom per byte and left to right per 8 pixels

then when fonts are taller than 8 pixels, the format continues on the next lower

8 pixels.

I think that I got the gist of most of that. I did download GLCDFontCreator2, and when I looked in the folder the only file that I could see that might run the program was a MS-DOS batch file but when I double clicked it all I saw was a command window open briefly but nothing else happening. It did not appear that I had Java installed so now that I have installed it the Font tool is now opening. Now I just have to work out how to use it Thanks again,

Requirements vary depending on which version you use. Although CEP2 is listed under the "Required Haks" section, there are separate hak-less and CEP2 versions available for download. Read the file descriptions carefully to make sure you're downloading the version that's right for you.

I copied the exact description from IGN's vault page thus why the description makes reference to their being multiple versions and CEP functions. The only version of this I have ever downloaded was version 4.4 Beta, which has always worked fine for me, as I wanted those additional functions more than a CEP merchant. (The CEP version was only at 4.3 thus would lack the 4.4 functions.)

Update -- Version 4.3 and Version 4.3 CEP added. There was a version 3.0, but that was only for people who had not patched their game beyond 1.67 and hopefully everyone is patching to 1.69 at this point. :)

Great module if you want to create a test server to test feature with new features before pulling them to production! Only bad thing is that you need to figure out how to place everything nicely for your integration, but once you figure that out, everything works really nice!

/1/A trans-module persistent chest capable of storing items which remain out there once you QUIT the module! Thanks to this you can take cool items from any NWN character and leave it here for posterity or for other NWN characters your create.

/2/ Item creator that finally allows you to make a whip with additional damage that would be useful as a main weapon, chainmail with no arcane spell failure uitable for a warrior/wizard or a fireball throwing harp.

Uhh..I have NWNEE from Steam and was wondering where the CEP mechant was after I installed the PG3 CEP ver?.....i only saw the one dwarf merchant.........nothing of a 2nd merchant......you have items dwarf, mirromirror,set-up lady, blue Noble guy with ugly FOO-MAN CHOO mushtache for charactor colors, wings , maybe better mushtaches too, but no CEP merchant......am i misiing something?......and BTW love this mod........!!!.....

oh and I have CEP.2.6 installed correctly, properly placed, Game is 1.69 from NWNEE edition. i know the GOG versions had problems, dont have that problem. I want CEP stuff so I can properly dress the love of my life Aribeth. ty so much......im sure its something stupid....

No Im a old fogie who likes little elven feet on Aribeth and enjoys A TON of modules and content on the old vault as well as this one now. It feels good to replay after 16 years or so. Soooo Im creating the "perfect Torm champion , with "rogueish" skills but still a good guy, most of the time. Want to create and save for each henchman an dthe best custom armor I can find for Ari. She deserves it after what happen to her. All you authors and web upkeepers deserve some kudos and a little more than 15 patreons !! to help you all to maintain this site and content.....ty..........

Ok, I tried to just change the ".mod" file an dkeep the same save. Doesnt work.......Now when I imported same charactor into "new" start, little red head elf (Aribeth's sister???) is there next to equipment dwarf.......ty so much for helping me.....lol

The thing is Neverwinter Nights never worked as more modern games, where you do a modification, change stuff, and simply load your saves and see the changes. You have to restart entire modules to see changes, UNLESS you modified the files within a HAK pack or the override folder. Anything modifed within modules is a no no. It also seems you tried to use one module instead of another, which is even less feasible.

Ahhh...si senor....I was thinking to just change the ".mod" file (Non-CEP ver 43) and drop in the CEP 43. And thought I could still use save. Now when i started new charactor , CEP merchant was there. But thank you though, and thats true, change the .HAK or overide would be feasible but the save has the info from OLD .mod.......:-)........

Is IGIPE still on the vault? can't find it anywhere, i'd need the "remove item properties" feature that it includes. I have tried to export it from this release but its functions are mixed in different scripts with different names that i can't isolate it and cound't make it work elsewhere ;)

Indeed a 'Pretty Good Character Creator'! The key feature this trainer module has that I haven't seen before is the Weapon Creator!! Finally I can create my stuff for any character with the correct level of gear without having to resort to the Aurora Toolset

Hi, I used to be styzygy (the "T" was a typo, and on the old system someone else had "syzygy" so I never got to change it). I just discovered there's a resurrected NW Vault, people are still playing the original NWN, and people are still using PGC3. I'm floored and grateful that after all these years, this thing I built is still being enjoyed. Thanks for your kind posts and ratings!

Pretty good character creator. I find the items guy a bit confusing with all the different categories of gear to sort through, but the customization of items function seemed to work very well, though very expensive. Anybody know why, when you can get unlimited gold in these things, they still charge an arm and leg for add-ons? Seems a bit pointless...

I just realized I've never cast my vote on the PGC3 here, even though I use it all the time. It's simple yet very versatile, just the way I like it. Extremely useful, especially for sharing or switching gear between different character( version)s or quicksetting the character level and gold required for other modules.

So is there no way to modify characters in an existing game? I tried replacing the player.bic file in my save with the modified version and when I go to the load screen it shows the updated stats in the preview, but once I load the game my character is still the way it before. I'm just trying to bump my level up to finish the damn companion sidequest because at this point I don't think there's enough left in the campaign for me to get there naturally.

The issue you're having is that the Pretty Good Character Creator / Cusomizer is the wrong tool for the job. It can do a lot of things to either prepare your character for your next module or clean up after a module. Since it is a module itself, it cannot do anything at all with a character that is actively in another module.

What you actually need to use it the Customize Character Overide Hack (CCOHEE / CCOH)

- NWN:EE version: -hakpak/custom...

- Original NWN version: -hakpak/customi...

I like using this tool for things like when the equipment that just dropped is an upgrade in terms of stats but downgrade in terms of appearance as it lets you change the appearance of equipment.

However you can go into the cheat section to increase or decrease your level, which I found to be very helpful for the time I accidently selected weapon specialization shortbow when I meant to pick short sword. (I downleveled myself, then had it restore the EXP to before the change so that I could fix the mistake.)

If you have any issues with using CCOH / CCOHEE, please drop me a private message directly. Unfortunately, I am dealing with a Covid infection at the moment and while I don't get a ton of symptoms, I do get extremely forgetful when I do have Covid and therefore cannot be depended on checking back to see if you need further assistance. I also don't want to get into a tutorial on using CCOH / CCOHEE on the page for the Pretty Good Character Creator / Customizer.
