Is there any hope of ever getting to see the source code for the
server and the interface to Inform?

I'm very much curious how everything is put together.

At some point, probably, but I have no immediate plans to open source
it. I would want to know that there's sufficient interest in working
on Guncho, not just browsing through the code. Most of it was hacked
together in a couple months as a proof-of-concept/April-Fools-Day-
joke, so it's not much to look at.

Belated followup: Guncho is now open source, hosted at BitBucket.

I haven't looked at the source yet, but being open source essentially means that people are now able to host their Guncho MUD on their own servers. Correct?

Correct - in theory you can compile your own Guncho server and host your games there. There aren't many advantages to doing so if you aren't going to modify the code, but one advantage would be that you can install your own Inform extensions or different versions of Inform. (The latter is easier said than done, since Guncho has a lot of custom Inform code that needs to be adapted to each version.)

Hey Nels, Im curious to know how it turned out for you? Did you get it installed and running? Can we log in?

Hi VW, regarding hardware, would using this computer to serve guncho be appropriate? I would love to have a small stand-alone computer cube running my very own guncho server. If a dropbox like file server could be installed as well, would the stored files (such as audio for rooms) be servable by author's story code to players? this is the computer I have in mind to purchase specifically for this project. Great to interface with you. Mystery (Erik).

Hi, Erik,-

I was able to download the source code, but I wasn't able to get it running.

I was able to figure out what I needed to, though.

That looks fine. I'd recommend getting at least 1 GB of memory, especially if you're going to run Windows.

Guncho doesn't yet have the ability to serve any media to players, only text.
