Hello~

There is a meeting scheduled for 10:00am Wednesday 25 August 2010 (this week) to discuss Spare Parts for boreholes, Pump Mechanic Trainings and potential ways forward to deal with the issues of broken, unmaintained boreholes in Gulu District.

The meeting will be in the District Water Office meeting room in Gulu.  Please keep time, we will be starting 10am sharp.

Proposed agenda:

 - Follow-up on the data we are expecting from the district (number boreholes, number Pump mechanics per SC, list of ACTIVE pump mechanics, current stock of spares for all donations, including ACF, UNICEF and ICRC)

 - Condition of boreholes in Gulu District (number, broken, working, location – school, clinic, community, etc)
 - Pump Mechanic Training Design (Content, duration...) – will the District please have ready the Pump Mechanic training manual?
 - Details of the new pilot scheme for water point maintenance
 - Workshop design to present the new pilot scheme

 - Details of the Pump Mechanic Training Manual, available in the District

Look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers,

Amelia

Dear Amelia,

Wednesday 25 August is fine with me.

I would like to underline the importance of the PM training manual !

URCS is planning a training in the very near future.

Regards,

Eugene Popma

All~

Can we schedule this meeting for the 25th August, as Gabriel proposed?  10am.  Would it be possible to have it in either the District Engineer’s office or the DWO?  Can those from the District confirm a location?

From what was suggested:

- Follow-up on the data we are expecting from the district (number boreholes, number Pump mechanics per SC, list of ACTIVE pump mechanics, current stock of spares for all donations, including ACF, UNICEF and ICRC)

- Condition of boreholes in Gulu District (number, broken, working, location – school, clinic, community, etc)
- Pump Mechanic Training Design (Content, duration...) – will the District please have ready the Pump Mechanic training manual?
- Details of the new pilot scheme for water point maintenance
- Workshop design to present the new pilot scheme

Thank you, and look forward to seeing you on 25th August.

Please keep time.

Cheers,

Amelia

Thanks Simon for your comments,

In order to really take advantage of this initiative, I would call for another meeting tentatively on the 25th of August.(?)

There is a lot of work to be done to turn the good ideas reflected in the minutes into concrete actions.

I believe this amount of time would give us all enough time to come up with the required data and would allow enough discussion to bring solid idea to the working table

Here are some of the thing we should start discussing into more details:

- Follow-up on the data we are expecting from the district (N. boreholes, N. Pump mechanics per SC, current stock of spares)
- Pump Mechanic Training Design (Content, duration...)
- Details of the new pilot scheme for water point maintenance
- Workshop design to present the new pilot scheme

Please do include whatever I forgot

Best Regards

Gabriele

Hi Amelia,

Thank you for the well captured minutes.

I would like to add something small here that in the previous workshop held in  September 2009. The period although it was mentioned as 1 year for “free spares”  it was not concluded that way. It was only mentioned- Short term and Long term periods.

Secondly the payments that were recommended by the pump mechanics  themselves was as follows; between 3000 to 5000 shillings for minor repair and 15,000 to 20,000 shillings for major repair. I suggest that Amelia should help us circulate again the soft copies of the minute of the previous workshop held in September 2009. Since  it seems to be working as a bench mark for spare parts net work in this context. (Hard copy is available with me and can be shared).

Also not captured well from this minutes was the follow up  part. Stephen (the chair person)promised to circulate the list of active Pump Mechanics to all the members who attended the meeting. This was not well captured so, All to take note.

Thanks

Simon

All~

Attached are the notes from today’s meeting.  Please add if there are things you think I missed, or could/should have elaborated more on.

Michel, what did you call the scheme?  Something Assurance Scheme…

I think the Pilot program is a really good idea, and we should look into expanding on this.  I would request the District’s assistance on this as well.

Cheers,

Amelia
