Heavy Rainfall & Flooding
Possible This Afternoon
Two to four inches of rain are expected on Friday afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall likely during the evening’s high tide at 8:00 p.m.
Low-lying roads may experience flooding multiple times throughout the weekend due to rainfall. Tides are not expected to pose an issue.
Flooded roads may be impassable. Use caution and never drive through standing water.
Free Storm Parking Until Saturday Morning
To help residents during this weekend’s projected heavy rain and potential flooding, the City of Charleston will offer free parking at the following garages:
99 West Edge Garage (99 West Edge St.)
Charleston Tech Center Garage (997 Morrison Dr.)

Free parking begins: 1:00 PM, Friday, August 22
Vehicles must exit by: 9:00 AM, Saturday, August 23
Cars only — no boats, trailers, or golf carts allowed
Pull a ticket when entering
Attendants will be on-site to assist at exit
If no attendant is present, press the black assistance button or call the number listed on the call box
Let them know you parked due to flooding and provide your name and address
Important: Vehicles parked before 1:00 PM Friday or left after 9:00 AM Saturday will be charged regular rates.
Road Closures: The Charleston Police Department is prepared to close roads as needed. Check the City's Road Closure Map and TideEye for live updates throughout the weekend.
Tip: Move your vehicle to higher ground and avoid traveling during periods of intense rain.
Mobile pumps are in place at several locations.
Barricades have been staged near more than 60 flood-prone locations across the city.
High water vehicles are ready to respond if needed.
Recreation centers remain open. Recreation managers will assess the weather to determine if programs need to be modified
Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through standing water
Stay weather-aware and consult official forecasts before traveling.
