Last week, an omnibus energy “reform” bill H.5118 was filed in the House that would have massive implications on South Carolina’s communities and natural resources for decades to come. This dangerous bill would green-light building huge new fossil fuel projects and turn a blind eye to the implications on ratepayers and the environment.
There is a subcommittee meeting on the bill on Tuesday 2/27 and partners, allies and concerned citizens are rallying for an Urgent Energy Advocacy Day at the SC State House to demonstrate opposition and testify against this harmful legislation.
Public Utilities Subcommittee Meeting
1:00-3:30 pm
Blatt Building, Rm. 403
Located at the corner of Pendleton & Assembly Streets in Columbia, SC
In addition to increasing SC’s unstable reliance on fossil fuels over clean energy alternatives while putting ratepayers, the environment, and clean energy future at risk, Bill H.5118 would also essentially direct the Public Service Commission (PSC) – our state’s energy regulator – to blindly approve a new methane gas mega project of undisclosed costs on the Edisto River in rural Colleton County near Canadys, which would also require a new pipeline to be constructed likely through the ACE Basin.
