Use Tax Project List

Beaufort County Council met for a Special Called Meeting of Public Facilities and Safety Committee to discuss possible amendments to the proposed 2024 Transportation Sales and Use Tax Ordinance and Referendum. The final modified list will now be presented to County Council for approval. Voters will get a chance to decide as the referendum will be on November's ballot.

If approved by voters, the referendum is ten year program to collect $950 million for numerous improvement projects around Beaufort County. 

"After a series of successful community information sessions, County Council took citizen feedback into account as they discussed alterations to the proposed referendum," said Jared Fralix, Assistant County Administrator Infrastructure. "We appreciate everyone who came out to the sessions and we are committed to ensuring this referendum reflects the priorities and needs of Beaufort County. This revised list of projects and amounts come to County Council next week, and if approved, voters will make their choice this November."

The complete list of projects is as follows:

  • Completion of underfunded TST 3 Projects
    • US 278 Corridor Project ($90 million)
    • Lady's Island Corridor Projects ($60 million)
    • 24 Pathways County-wide: Remaining projects funded under Pathway Funds ($30 million)
  • Greenbelts ($50 million)
  • Mass Transit ($80 million)
  • The Triangle Project-SC 170, US 278, Argent Boulevard ($120 million)
  • Ribaut Road Improvements ($75 million)
  • SC 46 Improvements ($50 million)
  • Municipal Projects
    • Hilton Head Island ($30 million)
    • North of the Broad- Port Royal, Beaufort & Northern Beaufort County ($30 million)
  • Safety and Traffic Flow ($100 million)
  • Dirt Road Paving ($80 million)
  • Resurfacing and Preservation ($50 million)
  • Pathway Projects ($20 million)
  • Resiliency/Emergency Evacuation Projects ($55 million)
