Peace All!

This project was actually one that numerous Gullah/Geechees opposed due to the fact that it will not address the sea level rise issues at the bridge in front of Ebenezer Baptist Church, it will lead to the loss of trees and most of all, the loss of property by multiple Gullah/Geechee families and two historic churches on that road.  So, please be present at this "drop in."

Peace,
Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Sidewalk project PUBLIC MEETING

Beaufort County is hosting a Public Meeting on Thursday, June 27, 2024, for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Sidewalk, one of the 14 priority locations as approved in the 2018 One Cent Sales Tax Referendum.  Beaufort County staff will present the proposed design for the 5’ sidewalk on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from US 21 (Sea Island Parkway) to Jonathan Francis Senior Road. The proposed design includes a 10’ boardwalk over the creek. The pathway improves pedestrian and bicyclist safety by providing a separate facility from the roadway.

Please join us for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Sidewalk Project Public Meeting

Where: St. Helena Branch Library, 6355 Jonathan Francis Senior Road, Saint Helena Island, SC 29920

When: Thursday, June 27, 2024

Time: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

The meeting will be conducted as an informal, drop-in format. There will be displays that depict the proposed design, and representatives from Beaufort County Engineering, J. Bragg Consulting, and Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering will be available to discuss the proposed improvements, answer questions, and listen to feedback. No formal presentation will be made.

The proposed design exhibits and other project information are available on the virtual meeting webpage. Visit www.beaufortcountypenny.com/meetings to view the information and submit comments by July 12, 2024.
