When: The Special Council meeting starts at 1 pm and the demonstration starts at NOON but plan to arrive early!
Where: The courtyard behind the main Beaufort County Administration building, in front of Beaufort County Courthouse and beside the Arthur Horne Building (which is the new Magistrate’s Court) at 104 Ribaut Rd.
Bring your folding chair and signs and be prepared to show your support and solidarity before Beaufort County Council members enter their Special Meeting to receive legal briefing on proposed Pine Island golf resort development agreement. We do NOT want any deals to be made outside of the public eye!
WE MUST STAND FIRM against a special carve out from the CPO for the 500-acre Pine Island property. A carve out or any alteration of the law will open the flood gates to more destructionment on St. Helena! The CPO zoning prohibits golf courses, gated communities, and resort developments because such uses are directly linked to skyrocketing taxes, low-wage, service industry jobs benefiting the elite, and destructionment, resulting in loss of Gullah/Geechee culture and landownership.
If the rules are changed for Pine Island to become a gated golf resort, then it will DESTROY the Gullah/Geechee epicenter. Hunnuh hafa stand up gainst disya!
