Im reopening this thread because today I had a problem with this plotter in windows 10 64 and I found the solution, both for the driver installation and for Autocad to detect the plotter correctly, because with other HP drivers installed the plotter could print certain types of files such as PDF or JPG, but could not print from AutoCad.

I know the full workaround now for this terrible bit of support from HP. After calling them and being told to buy a new plotter instead of how to use my perfectly functioning plotter, I called a local company who were able to walk me through it simply.

Now, suddenly, in the middle of a job, my Designjet 500 printing process decided to get goofy. I uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall on my up todate Win 10/64 machine. I tried using the HP drivers I already had (and have worked OK) but by following the options that Win provided, I couldn't get it to recognize any files in the HP 500 folder.

I don't know how many hours I've spent trying to find the right driver to get my plotter working on a new computer. Now I'm in business. And wish I had time to go back to all the forums with the incorrect solution and post this one.

I am going through a difficult transition trying to move a client serverless, and finding current cloud solutions offered by MS are insufficient for storing .DWG files. Prior to deciding to move data to Sharepoint we reviewed this article from 2019 which makes it seem as though Autocad in Sharepoint is not only supported but integrated.

Autodesk AutoCAD and Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint

Based on this information we made the move and migrated their .dwg files to Sharepoint with the intent of leveraging the One drive sync client to give them the file explorer access they are used to when editing designs. The result however was lost work, and we later stumbled upon this very recent article from Autodesk themselves stating Sharepoint is not a supported storage location for Autocad drawings.

Same DWG file on Sharepoint can be opened multiple times with no read-only alert in AutoCAD (autodes...

The issue here ends up being that in a standard SMB environment with files stored on a server share a user can open up an Autocad file for editing and when subsequent users open the file, they will get a message that another user is editing it, and the file will open in read only mode. With the mechanics of Sharepoint and the one drive sync client neither user is informed the file is open and they can both edit, resulting in multiple out of sync files or lost work for one of the 2 users.

Sharepoint has a check out feature, that SHOULD mitigate this by forcing users to check out the files prior to editing it HOWEVER the checkout feature is not compatible with the One drive sync client and if any user is syncing a library with checkout enabled it will auto-lock ALL files within that directory.

With these concerns taken into consideration Autocad DWG files and Sharepoint are neither integrated nor a workable solution for any real-world scenario other than a single user environment.

I thought moving this data to the Autocad Drive platform would mitigate this, but that makes it worse. They offer another product called Autocad Cloud, but with those costs considered they may actually be eclipsing server replacement costs and make this move a less than lateral one.

Could Microsoft alter the article to be more clear that his is only supported for single user environments? Stating that there is no way to directly open DWG files in Sharepoint without risking lost/duplicate work in multiuser environments would have put the brakes on this plan.

Has anyone run into this before and found a solution that works for Autocad users without greatly changing the work flow they are used to? I'm all ears. Thank you.

Thank you all for your quick response. I will definitely look into Zee drive. it also seems like it advertises overcoming some file size amount and naming limitations that have been a pain point for us when trying to move users to the cloud. I am also finding this CentreStack Software that does the same thing;

This all being said my question becomes, are there other options out there as well to deal with this, and has anyone been able to compare some of these different platforms and weigh in on pros and cons?

An interesting point here is that clients pay big bucks for both Autocad and MS products. MS makes a sync client that can't do what zee drive does, and Autocad also makes products to support cloud file locking that are astronomically priced. From the Website Zee drive seems like a small company and their product is a fraction of what Autodesk is charging AND outperforms One Drive Sync client. Both MS and Autodesk should buy one of these companies out and include these features rather than charging extra. What a customer Dis-service to have to involve a third party to get these products to play right together when you have been advertising since 2019 that they are "integrated". shame on Microsoft.

I have an ancient program that I use for reading and writing data from AutoCAD. This program is written in Delphi 5. I have tried to update it to a newer release but several of the libraries I use no longer exist and it is a huge program with lots of libraries used.

The program uses the ACAX##ENU.TLB type library that is provided with AutoCAD. Where ## changes for each AutoCAD release. Every time Autodesk sends out a new AutoCAD version I import the new type library and life goes on.

Now I am faced with Windows 10. For some reason the automation links between my program and AutoCAD are not working in Windows 10. Did something change about the way the type libraries work between Windows 7 and Windows 10? Something that Delphi 5 is no longer compatible with? Maybe it's a 16bit vs 32bit vs 64bit issue. That is all over my head but I understand that Windows 10 dropped support for some 16bit operations. But my program itself runs perfectly. Even the BDE can be made to work which is amazing to me.

Well, it's been a long time since I asked this question but here is an answer:I was able to get my Delphi 5 compiled program working with AutoCAD 2017 in a Windows 10 environment. I am pretty sure that the solution was to run the program WITHOUT administrative permissions and WITHOUT any compatibility modes switched on. Apparently Windows places restrictions on COM communications as soon as you turn on either of those features. There may have also been issues with Windows 10 still having UAC active even when you set UAC all the way off. There is a registry setting to actually set UAC to off but my corporate IT prevents turning that off even with admin rights.

There was a bit of a clue that might be helpful to others: with the admin permission and/or windows XP compatibility turned on the program took several extra seconds to boot. With the settings turned off it booted quickly.

Autodesk only officially supports AutoCAD 2010 and newer on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Older versions were not designed for the Vista UAC(User Account Controls) and security built into Vista and Windows 7. AutoCAD 2002 wasn't even designed for Windows XP.

While the newer versions of AcroPlot are compatible with Windows 7 it doesn't mean that we are going to be able to drive older versions of AutoCAD externally on Windows 7. Getting an older version of AutoCAD to run on Windows 7 is one thing. Getting a program to be able to drive an older version of AutoCAD is a whole different problem.

For older versions of AutoCAD on Windows 7 you will likely have to set both AutoCAD and AcroPlot to Run As Administrator because the older version of AutoCAD likely needs elevated rights to run. You will also likely have to set AutoCAD to run in Windows XP, SP3 emulation mode.

Now you may ask why AcroPlot would have to be set to Run As Administrator when it is Windows 7 compatible and you want to use a version of AutoCAD before 2010. The reason is because of the Windows UAC and a program cannot start another program that requires higher privileges. So if AcroPlot is running as a normal user and it tries to start AutoCAD 2002 which you have set to Run As Administrator then it will fail. At this point you can either run AcroPlot from inside of an already opened AutoCAD or you will have to set AcroPlot to Run As Administrator also.

Yes, Autocad supports Windows 11. Autocad 2021 is the latest version that supports Windows 11. It is a powerful 2D and 3D design software used by architects, engineers, and construction professionals to create detailed technical drawings.

Autocad is a computer-aided design (CAD) software application used in computer-aided drafting (CAD) and design. It is widely used in the fields of architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing. With its ability to create accurate and detailed drawings, Autocad has become the industry standard for CAD software. But does Autocad support Windows 11?

The answer is yes, Autocad does support Windows 11. Autocad is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, and Windows 7. Autocad can also be installed on Windows 11, as long as the system meets the minimum requirements.

The minimum requirements for Autocad installation on Windows 11 include having a 64-bit processor with at least 4 GB of RAM and 8 GB of free hard drive space. It also requires an Internet connection and a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Additionally, Autocad requires a DirectX 11 graphics card with a minimum of 1 GB of video memory.

Using Autocad on Windows 11 offers several benefits for designers, engineers, and other professionals who use CAD software. First, Windows 11 provides enhanced security features, such as Windows Defender, which helps protect the system from malicious software, and the Windows Firewall, which helps protect the system from network threats.

Second, Windows 11 has improved performance, with faster startup times, improved multitasking, and better memory management. This can be beneficial when using Autocad, as the software can run more efficiently and can take advantage of the improved performance.
