Iregret to say my MacBook Pro's Books library is missing. When I open the app, no books appear. Although collections, including any new ones I create, still appear in the lefthand sidebar--just with nothing in them!
On my iOS devices (iPad Pro and iPhone) the Books library is still intact. Collections complete with all of the books and PDFs in them, and highlights and edits, sync across those two devices. But I can't get it to sync onto my Mac.
hello everyone. I just got a new macbookpro and want to store all my ibooks on an external drive.....I have read this is not possible.....I am now storing all of my music/photos this way..on an external drive.....is there some other way to store the books other than on a/the hard drive...Mine, the hard drive, already has a very large mount of needed space devoted to the books.....any insight..?
i tried that and can't figure out how to do that...import books directly into music. There has to be a video or something that can explain this......OR.......Can I use my other itunes meaning a/the version before the Books thing happened....on another macbookpro just to store all of the books after i move all the music to Music...?
I have absolutely no books in my collection, plus I use iTunes 7.5 from about 12 years ago. The bit I quoted earlier was all that was said. That said, I wonder if you need to change the file extensions so the audio files are not longer seen as books but as music files. I believe that would entail changing them from .m4b to .m4a. I would experiment on a copy of a single file until you were content with the results.
I am referring to audiobooks. Add them to Music like I was doing before the Books change thing happened..? I really, really, can't lose all of these books but the way it's going my hard drive will be full of books....If addding the books to Music is possible then I have to ask...what is Books supposed to be used for, other than taking up a LOT of valuable space on the hard drive...?
I quote this from another topic, "The only workaround I can think of offhand is to delete the media from Books and import the originals to Music instead of Books. They should still be on the external drive."
I noticed that the synced files show up in the All My Files view. I tried to find out their exact location, it seems to be iCloud Drive / iBooks (via Cmd+I) but when I try to navigate there from iCloud Drive, the iBooks folder doesn't show up, even when I turn hidden files on.
Open any PDF; when it opens in Preview, right-click the titlebar and click "iBooks (iCloud)". When the iBooks finder window opensdrag the iBooks folder icon in the titlebar to your sidebar. now you have quick access to your ibooks. You can now drag and drop books on that folder and they will be there when you open iBooks app.
In Mojave it appears it's no longer possible to drag the Books (formerly iBooks) folder icon to the sidebar. However with the folder open/frontmost (and with nothing inside the folder selected) selecting File > Add to Sidebar does the trick.
I used a utility called EasyFind to find the name of a book on my computer. Then I used an option in that utility to open in finder, and found a shared folder called Books. Get Info showed "Where: iCloud Drive > Books". Then, without selecting a book, I added that folder to my side bar. Kind of clumsy, but this may be useful.
I tried telling the finder to go to places mentioned in posts above, but failed. Although what would really be useful is if I could open my wife's Books directory and copy all of my books in it (she is the owner of our family plan).
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Children's Book Drive was started in 2004 and expands from the Capital District to Buffalo and New York City areas. The initiative collects new or gently used children's books for distribution to elementary, middle, high schools, and after school programs. The program continues to grow beyond expectations each year. Children can unlock their true potential by embracing the power of the written word by reading, thanks to the generosity of numerous state agencies throughout the state.
Through the continued partnership with the Albany City School District's Literacy Programs, Project Flight (Buffalo State College), Reach Out and Read, Greater New York, the initiative has garnered amazing results and developed many successful alliances. Since 2004, the total number of books collected from all statewide agencies and satellite locations is 402,055. The 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Statewide Children's Book Drive will be held from from February 20 through April 19, 2024
Drive to Survive goes beyond talking about pump operations, aerial operations, and preventative maintenance; it fills in the gaps between vehicle dynamics and crash causation. After 15 years of training and research, Chris Daly developed a training program combining his fire service and crash reconstruction training experience.
Fire apparatus operators will learn the limits of driving an emergency vehicle and will understand that no matter how long they have been driving or how good they think they are, at some point physics will take over and the vehicle will lose control.
We can reduce the number of emergency vehicle crashes throughout the world by addressing key issues and providing emergency vehicle operations course (EVOC) instructors with methods to convey these concepts. Concepts you learn in this book relate to more than just driving a fire apparatus. These principles apply to anyone who drives a vehicle, including your family members and loved ones.
Zivarts contrasted her experience growing up in a rural town where she relied on others for rides to living in New York City, where a strong subway system empowered her to make trips independently and gain a sense of belonging.
Zivarts brings up an issue that was echoed in another book I recently read, Inclusive Transportation: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communities by Veronica Davis. Davis points out how people who get around not in a car are undervalued, undercounted, and under-supported in how cities are designed. Black, Brown, and low-income people have often borne the brunt of destructive transportation projects (especially freeway-building), adding to this harmful inequity.
Add to this what Zivarts points out: nondrivers from marginalized communities are the most likely to be excluded from decision-making processes, which means their needs and concerns frequently fall by the wayside.
Both When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency and Inclusive Transportation: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communities bring essential learnings and reflections on what it means to be a pedestrian and a pedestrian advocate. Both books also highlight how interconnected transportation planning and traffic violence are, making clear that equity must be at the core of how we decide the future of streets and cities. Let me know what you think if you read either book at

Team of Teams by General Stanley McChrystal is a fantastic book for everyone in a distributed business, or an org structure with more than one layer. It's aimed at leaders, but it was really helpful to me as a mid-level cog in a large healthcare organization when I read it in 2016.
The larger case study is his time in Iraq with a distributed team of teams, but he applies the lessons across industries, too. He builds on the same foundation of autonomy, mastery, and purpose in the context of team dynamics and inter-team capabilities.
It's been a while since I've had time for leadership books, but I've definitely had time for some podcasts while running errands. Thanks to @Christine P. Dela Rosa 's great recommendation of the Starfleet Leadership Academy podcast , that's my current favorite! Each episode of the podcast draws insight from a particular episode of Star Trek, examining both the good and bad. Too often we focus on what to do, and sometimes miss what not to do. I love that this podcast explores the flops and what the characters could have done better!
@Peter Van de Voorde good read. I'd be interested what prompt you used to get the ChatGPT summary and if you used the same prompt again now over a month later whether the output would be any different.
Just finishing up Drive Audiobook in the car. Certainly worth putting on your read list. Interesting concepts and some good points. If you're in a Leadership Role, I'd put it on the must read list as it gives you a different perspective on motivating your team.
@Andy Gladstone : for some reason I only saw your comment and question just now.
I wanted to use ChatGPT once to see what it would create, more as an experiment than anything else. I haven't used it since because I believe writing in my own voice makes the message more authentic.
If you use the Version 2 Guide, minus the boot CD, and install the appropriate image file, it will contain all the correct partitions and the OS. I think all you would need to do is put the image on appropriately formatted external media, or somewhere you can address it if you are familiar with Linux drive designations and commands.
