I've been researching this subject. There are several posts on forums
by individuals who "cause or make" a hen go broody ! ! !

I gotten a few opinions...some think it may not be true. But the one
person I respect the most...a pro in NC who lectures on all types of
poultry...says its true.

The routine is lock the hen in a dark cozy nest for a few days....let
her out for 15 minutes for food and water if she's not broody by day
2. I've done this once...with a hen I believed was leaning toward
becoming broody...she is broody now...it required 2 days.

kinda interesting !

Tomorrow I'll be setting 18 more guinea eggs under my new broody Game
Fowl hen. She decided this afternoon ... I was pretty sure yesterday
but today was the clincher.

All it takes is 2-3 days of confinement (let her out for 15-20 minutes
daily for food and water daily or let her sit for 2 days straight). I
let mine out yesterday but she wasn't quite so intent on going back to
the eggs so I put her back in. Today....I let her out of the nest box
at noon but she was back sitting on the eggs in 15 minutes ...all by
herself after she ate and drank as much as she wanted.

This bird exhibited no broody characteristics prior to my confining
her. She was in fact laying eggs...and now she isn't.

Pretty cool !

That is great info to know for when/if I ever get any Game Hens or
Silkies for the sole purpose of brooding eggs for me. If I find a nest
of Guinea eggs and do not have a Hen ready to sit on them for me, it's
reassuring to know I can just incubate the eggs for a couple for days
while I give the forced broodyness a try and not waste any eggs.

Peeps,

This method works...no ifs, ands, or buts.
