I am trying to connect to a new CentOS 7 server to do some performance testing. It is a minimal install and at this point the only things installed / configured are to test RAID performance, Java 1.7 and Wowza Media Server which has a web service that runs on port 8088. I am able to SSH / Sftp into the server all I want, but can't connect to the port 8088 from my windows computer.

Hello,
I am not an experienced Linux user and I have trouble to get to the web setup for the CentOS 7 installation. I run some CentOS VMs which are working quite fine. I want to setup passbolt for a working scenario which is accessable outside my company network. Firewall should be configured correctly.
At first I installed an minimal iso of CentOS 7 (I installed it twice). I registered a dnss record for the IP and configured NAT. I tried to do a basic install with the script like provided in the guide and the installation does not seem to fail. After the the script I can not access the webserver.

Hi everyone I added the code from @garrett to the install scripts hopefully will be merged this week. Thanks garrett I mentioned you on the commit and will add your email if you want to the release notes.

During installation I need to select "Installation Source". I can enter select "closest mirror" or enter an http(s) or ftp URL."closest mirror" directly returns with the error message: "Error setting up base repository". I tried to enter the URL of a mirror für the full Centos 8 image, which is listed on the centos website. It says downloading package metadata. After waiting for 40 minutes I quit the installation. Of course I was connected to WiFi. How can I proceed with the installation of Centos 8?

This is the Official CentOS 7 x86_64 HVM image that has been built with a minimal profile, suitable for use in HVM instance types only. The image contains just enough packages to run within AWS, bring up an SSH Server and allow users to login. Please note that this is the default CentOS-7 image that we recommend everyone uses. It contains packages that are updated at points in time to include critical security updates.

In July 2009, it was reported in an open letter on the CentOS Project web site that one of CentOS's founders, Lance Davis, had disappeared in 2008. Davis had ceased contribution to the project, but continued to hold the registration for the CentOS domain and PayPal account. In August 2009, the CentOS team reportedly made contact with Davis and obtained the centos.info and centos.org domains.[27]

MinimalCD images contain a minimum of packages required for a functional installation, with no compromises in security or network usability. These minimal images use the standard CentOS installer with all of its regular features minus the selection of packages. Yum can be used after the installation is completed to add or remove packages.[170][171]

We keep getting agent errors/not updating with the auto update. There are several threads on this but no resolution that I can see. One post indicated a centos/RHEL bug but I was able to find that the Selinux was actually stopping the RPM update. It looks like the SOFTWARE_UPDATE type was added some time ago but after spending some time to see if I can whitelist this I am not finding much on the this Seliunx type.

Is it not possible to install the Sangoma System Admin module on a RHEL7/Centos7 system? I installed a base Centos7 minimal system, following the guide at
+FreePBX+13+on+CentOS+7
Then downloaded the schmooze repo according to the guide at
+on+CentOS+and+RHEL+based+systems

I am trying to install Ubuntu 15.04 to replace my existing distro of Linux, Centos 7 Workstation. During the install I get to the point where it asks if I want Ubuntu to overwrite my existing disk (500gb hdd), in which I accept and hit continue, it then gets to the screen where it shows the drive onto which the os will be loaded, I click continue...and the it loops back to the previous page. I've using the manual partitioning program built into the installer and it shows all of my existing partitions in centos under dev/mapper/centos-home (approx 450 GB) and dev/mapper/centos-root (approx 50GB) and when I try to select each one, format it to EXT4 or FAT32, it will give me the option of creating a home partition and boot partition but no root, claims I need a root partition, and then sends me back to the previous "select which drive" page. Have never ever had a problem changing distribution of Linux until now. The computer I am putting this is on a Samsung U530 Ultrabook and I have already disabled UEFI in bios. Now when trying to load Centos I just get the emergency screen. Any help getting Ubuntu on this PC would be appreciated!

I have a centos 7 virtual machine that I do not have root access to and currently have Sublime Text 3 installed on it. I would like to install Sublime Text and Merge 4 into a local directory (/bin) to run.

On one hand, where CentOS 8 Linux will stop getting further updates in December of this year, CentOS 7 Linux still has a long time to reach the end of its life that is stipulated in 2024. Thus, if you want to start with this server Linux distro then still you have enough time, and here will let you know how to install CentOS 7 minimal version on Server, PC, or VirtualBox.

The option to download the minimal ISO of this server is available on CentOS 7 official index mirror page along with the full-fledged ISO and Net-installer version. Here is the official mirror links page, visit and select any of the available ones. After opening any link select the minimal version to download.

To give it another try you may install centos 7 aarch64 from the official minimal ISO.
However keep in mind epel-7 for aarch64 is not maintained since end 2019, that why from the Nethserver side we only keep the NS repositories up to date but do not release a aarch64 version.

I have a clue why grub does not update the kernel entry properly, most likely because during nethserver-install we enable the centos-altarch sig kernel repository. From there it pulls in the kernel from the newer 5.4.x branch.
Should de solved by editing /etc/sysconfig/kernel to resemble this:

CentOS 7 is a valuable tool to learn for any IT professional interested in Linux. The clean and open feel of the desktop is a welcome change to the banal look past Linux distributions have thrived on. The Unity desktop environment used by Ubuntu has been replaced by the GNOME 3 interface of CentOS 7. Clean lines and a sleek, trendy color scheme gives the display a truly modern feel. A purely exquisite, upscale look is embodied by the icons, fonts, and even the desktop calendar. As for software availability, the repositories for RHEL systems are as complete as Debian-based systems, especially with the addition of Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL). Overall, the learning curve is minimal and new users should grow accustomed to changes quickly. First-hand experience is by far the best approach to learning more about the unique entity that is CentOS 7. Download a free image of CentOS 7 and explore.
