Hi All,

My name is Steve and I live in Cumbria in the UK.  I’ve been a guide dog owner for about 15 years now and an on my second dog now.  He’s a gorgeous big Lab Retriever called Boots.

My question is around the issue of transporting our dogs whilst in a car.  I guess this will probably be more relevant to members who are in the UK as I guess our Stateside friends have no problems with the cool sizes of your cars.

I’m currently using a Renault Scenic for work etc which has a really cool huge boot capacity.  I’m due to change my car later this year and have looked very closely at a Skoda Octavia Estate.  Whilst I know that this would be ok for the dogs, I’ve also looked at the Octavia hatch which also has an enormous boot capacity.  The only thing is though that the hatch has a boot type back.  True though that the hatched back has an enormous window which stretches from the roof down beyond the position where the parcel shelf would have been so the dog would have plenty of light and space to stand at the back.

Has anyone else taken their dogs in a hatch back vehicle particularly a Skoda Octavia?

Look forward to your replies and to reading the topics on the list.

Best regards

Steve

For short journeys, then I have my dog in the foot well between my legs.

Hi ya Pam,

Great to hear from you. Thanks for the welcome. I actually come from Northern Ireland myself, well Belfast to be precise.

Thanks for the info. That's quite good to know and much more reassuring now. Yes, the Octavia is pretty enormous. I've been looking at loads of cars the last couple of months and was pretty set on a Skoda Yeti but the other day when I had a quick look at the Octavia, I fell in love instantly. Blew out the yeti completely smiles. The Octavia is just so comfortable.
Many thanks.

Steve

hi terry
ya i have my dog in the footwell for short journeys too. but for longer journeys like going to the vet who is about half an hour's drive away i prefer to put her in the boot where she has more room.

Yeah, I used to always keep my dog in the front with me but since I got my own car, I always put him in the back where there is considerably more room.

If I'm in a taxi or someone elses car then Boots goes in the front with me.

Cheers

Steve

We always did like the Octavia, which is also Skoda but the advance payment
on that is beyond us.

Same for me on this one. The footwell in our car is a bit cramped for long journeys.

Julia,

You'd be very surprised at the advanced payments at the moment. I've put the current prices below for your information.

Skoda Octavia 1.2 S 5dr Petrol is zero advanced payment

Skoda Octavia 1.2 SE 5dr Petrol is £195 advanced payment
This is quite a higher spec'ed car

You can get a 1.6 S trim in a TDI model for £195

The above are hatchbacks but for the estate version it is £395 for the S trim in a 1.6 TDI and £795 for a SE trim.

My favoured choice at the moment is the top spec Elegance 1.6 Desiel hatchback for £595 which is the all singing and dancing model with satnav etc.

Hope that helps.

giggles, OK and thanks, but I've not a clue about cars, its the other half
that does the main choosing as he is the one who will drive it though I put
my foot down on Japanese and Korean and American cars ont he grounds that
there are enough European makes. Yes, I do know the higher int he range the
dearer the advance. Ours is up for renewal next year, so we will see. My
main proiority is dog room in the front!! But we've always wanted an Octavia
but they were about 4000 advance last time we looked. Nice to know they've
come down in cost though. I jsut insist on having main say in colour!
