Hi everyone.

I am Maria from Australia.
I have a yellow lab named Abby. She is my second guide dog and we have almost been together a year.
. I heard about this list, from my friend Dave from the UK who just joined.
I am 47 and happily married. I am on quite a few email lists, so some of you may know me.

Well, now that I've established what this group is about, My name is David. I have my own dog rehabilitation centre since 09 and have trained multiple dogs, most with aggression issues. I live in Canada, hope that is alright. If not I will happily leave the group.

Hi Maria. Good to see you here.

I think it's a good thing, to hear from Guide Dog owners, from other
countries around the world, and learn about any differences, in training
techniques, and share our experiences.

Dave.

In North America a lot of guide dog schools have 2 weeks of training, use the click and treat method to train the dogs and of course encourage the grad to continue using treats as a method of training and rewarding the dogs. No, I don't use that method. There are at last count 15 schools in the U S and 5 in Canada. I mentioned this because someone I know in New Zealand said there is just 1 in New Zealand and 1 in Australia.
