my younger son Kris just went to get the resluts of the test on his thyroid as he had as he had a large knolgial it was not cancers but very large. They told him that he should have the whole thing taken out and live on the medication for the rest of his life .
I do not know if they can only take half of it out or not.
He is just 32 and about to buy his first home.

Hi Terrie!

Well I hope he gets it all sorted out. Medication can do wonders these
days.

Terri, all I can say is that if I were him, I'd want some very detailed counselling about the pros and cons of having that done. It's not the sort of thing where you can give a one-line answer.

Vince.

Hi Terri,

Most people can live a long productive life without the Thoroxyn the body produces as long as they take the daily pills to replace it.

I should know as I have been on total replacements for the past 41 years without having suffered any ill effects.
So if I were in his shoes, I would tell the doctors to remove it.
My brother Mike had his Thyroid gland removed due to cancer two years ago and has been on total replacement and is doing beautifully.
And, he is in the special forces as a US Marine.
So truly!  Its no big deal any more.  I promise!
If you wish to contact me to know more, just ask Peter how to get in touch with me.  He has my contact info.
Jim

Hi Terry,

Do not worry yourself over the surgery Kris may have. It is perfectly safe
I have been on Thyroid replacement for the past 41 years with wonderful results and with today's technology, there is no reason he can't do the same.
As a matter of fact, my brother Mike is 53 years old and had to have his thyroid gland removed three years ago and go on the replacements and he is fine.
Best of all, He is in the US Marine Corps special forces and feels great. To be honest, Mike is a Major in the Corps and is still going strong.
So I promise. Even is Kris has the surgery, his life will not be changed. Once his scar heals, he will feel good as new.

If you need more information, either write me off list or ask Peter for my contact information.
He can forward it along to you.

Above all else, do not worry. Everything is fine.

Love,

Jim
