In an industry filled with realistic simulation games like Farming Simulator 22 and Two Point Hospital, there are a few developers that go out of their way to create simulator games that allow a player's imagination to run wild. Brilliant Game Studios is one of those few developers that have managed to garner a significant following thanks to their Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator series.

And now with the release of Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2, players can expect to recreate their dream wars on a grander scale. And while the core gameplay is quite simple to learn (like that of many walking simulators), it takes time to master every aspect of UEB 2. But once players master these tips, they'll be able to start creating massive ducks vs. Spartan battles in no time.

Most new players jump into Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 without taking the time to look over the keybinds, leading to limited gameplay since some keybindings are essential to enjoy UEB 2 fully. For example, players that enjoy playing as 18th-century French units (like those found in Age Of Empires 4) can play as one of the French soldiers by pressing F to possess them.

Additionally, knowing all the keybindings allows players to navigate the map better, meaning less time-wasting "button mashing" and more time witnessing a lone T-rex battling an army of Zombies. And for those players that carefully lay out the battlefield, they can press C to enable Cinematic Mode, allowing them to view the entire epic battle unfold in cinematic fashion.

There are dozens of units in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2, from Mongolian Soldiers to Orcs, meaning the possibilities are near-endless when it comes to creating an epic battle. But, aside from default units, players can customize a specific unit by giving them unbelievable stat increases, essentially creating a super-being. For example, players can make a Battle Duck immortal while giving it a massive power increase.

Of course, players won't be able to fully customize a unit in terms of aesthetics (at least not until Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 transforms into an RPG). But, once players can mod UED 2 like its predecessor, the possibility of adding and customizing iconic characters is endless.

Continuing down the line of unit customization, players will want to understand the various settings that can be altered in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2. Of course, there are the basic settings (Health, Damage, and Attack Speed) that need no explanation and function the same as other video games. But, for example, Attack Range is a setting that alters the range a unit must reach to attack another unit. Most notably, a unit melee unit can have increased Attack Range, thus being able to attack a unit without actually being near it.

Blocking is another useful unit setting that doesn't necessarily block all attacks, even if a player sets the Block Rate to 100%. Unit speed, projectile speed, and weight are a few of the unit settings that cannot be changed in UEB 2. Additionally, players can change a unit's projectiles, meaning they can have a Modern Soldier shoot Arrows instead of Bullets.

Water or fluids (blood) in general in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 aren't just for show and can significantly impact the course of an epic battle. Fluids in UEB 2 have volume (meaning units can sink if the fluid is deep enough) and will flow to the lower section of a map. For example, if players summon water on top of Mount Olympus, it'll flow down the mountain and even wash away units.

Players should keep in mind that units cannot swim and will inevitably drown. Fortunately, units will avoid crossing large bodies of water but certain situations (God Powers) may force them to try to pass a large body of water leading to their demise. And since Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 isn't the most historically accurate video game, blood is also considered a fluid. That means eliminating 3,000,000 Egyptian Spearman will create a large pool of blood that can drown units.

Even though most new players enjoy watching their armies completely obliterate each other, there are other "fun" ways to eliminate units in UEB 2, namely, using God Powers. With God Powers, players can feel like one of the many powerful mythological gods, especially Egyptian-themed ones. So far, in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2, there are five God Powers: Shotgun Smite, Noah's Flood, Nuke, Tsunami, and Tornado.

Shotgun Smite is essentially a giant Shotgun that will eliminate large groups of units. Noah's Flood summons a column of water that will slowly flood the area while a Tsunami summons a large wave that will wash away units. The Nuke God Power releases a Nuke onto the map, practically eliminating everything on the map. As for the Tornado God Power, it places a powerful Tornado that damages and lifts (depending on their weight) units, tossing them in the air.

Any gaming title that has not one but two bombastic adjectives in its name can either be ultra cooland amazing, or totally pointless. There's no middle ground. It sure does attract attention, though, and during one of Steam's mega discount sales, I got it. Right away, I realized the game had failed anobjective. By calling itself Ultimate, it should really be one single installment. And yet, there itwas, the sequel.

What I got and tried is this second version of the game. Same same but improved. The game simulatesbattles, just like before, only does it more ultimatively and epic-like than before. Today, I will tellyou how my first two or three hours of playing went. Also, I tried it in Linux, exclusively. This istechnically a Windows title, but with Steam Proton being awesome, I decided to try my luck thatway. Let us.

Very simple. UEBS 2 lets you create - simulate - battles. You build two or more armies, choose their"type", place them on a map, and then watch chaos unfold. There's a range of Unit Categories and UnitSelections you can try. For example, you can pit WW2 Sherman tanks against a horde of ostriches. Or youcan send Spartans to defeat Roman legionnaires, or perhaps fight Evil Gingers (yup, a real game unit)with Chuck Norris (yup, a real game unit). Norris or Norrises, plural. Aha.

You can also choose the unit quantity, battle formation and spacing, and then select one of thedozen available maps. To see what gives, I tried the basic 1-vs-1 scenarios, but you're not limited bythat choice at all. You can have multiple armies fighting, and if you set your heart and mind and CPUpower to it, try to recreate some of the big historical battles. And some ... not so historicalbattles.

And that's it. Enter the map, enjoy the carnage. The one annoying aspect of the game is that it'shard to pan and orbit the battlefield, even with the highest scroll setting. The cinematic (and flyingcinematic) views are a little better, but you still sometimes need to slow down the battle speed toposition the camera correctly and not miss the fighting.

The music and sound effects are repetitive. The visuals are ok, but there are a lot of glitches, like upturned turrets or sideways turrets on Sherman tanks, legless animals and similar. But if youlook beyond the technical details, you end up with wacky simulations. Say, as I gently hinted before, what happens if you send 100,000 ostriches against a well-staggered formation of tanks? The armor wins, cool. But what about the same amount of aggressive birds against a handful of modern soldiers?

The results of different battles were different than what I expected. I never thought ostrichescould defeat a battalion of modern troops, but there you have it. Likewise, the Spartans seemed todestroy the Romans with effortless brutality. Chuck Norris is one super weird unit, though.

I created a scenario where 2,000 Chucks fought against a myriad gun-toting soldiers. Turns out,Chucks be invincible. The bullets bounce back. Even the nukes can't harm Chuck. So this was a ratherunderwhelming simulation.
