"The call for proposals on “Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization for Gender Equality and Inclusion” co-funded with CAF - Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean - seeks to fund rigorous academic studies that assess the real-world impact of AI and digital technologies on gender equity and social inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Eligibility Criteria 
1. Both independent researchers and research teams comprised of entities from the public sector, private sector, universities, or research centers may apply. 
2. Applicants must also meet the following requirements: 
a) be a citizen of one of the 48 IDB member countries and 
b) not have immediate family members employed by the IDB Group (which includes the IDB, IDB Lab, and IDB Invest) or by CAF up to the fourth degree of consanguinity or second degree of affinity, including spouses
3. Rigorous academic studies that assess how artificial intelligence and digital tools can improve access, participation, and outcomes for women and underserved groups, and identifies strategies to strengthen digital and analytical skills relevant to an AI-driven economy. 
4. Research proposals must provide quantitative and rigorous evidence in the following thematic areas:
Digital capabilities,
Digital public services,
Economic empowerment,
Gender-based violence,
Crime prevention and access to justice,
Health systems,
Equitable learning,
Algorithmic design and inclusive decision-making.
5. Teams must:
a) register, download and fill the application form in English, and then
b) submit the duly completed form through GDLab’s call for proposals’ website.

Specialists from the IDB Group or CAF may participate in the projects by collaborating with the research teams; however, they must be formally associated with an external team and will not be eligible to receive financial compensation for their contributions. 

Funding will be transferred exclusively to external institutions or researchers leading the project and not to individuals affiliated with the IDB Group or CAF.

The Scientific Committee of this call for proposals will evaluate them based on relevance, innovation, scalability, replicability, quality of the methodology, and ability of the team to carry out the research project.

The deadline to submit a proposal is October 7, 2025 at 11:59 pm ET."
