"The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched its second global innovation challenge, calling on startups, researchers and digital developers to build tools that allow crisis-affected communities to report damage in real time.

Eligibility
1. Startups, researchers and digital developers.
2. Innovative, scalable, and user-friendly mechanisms that allow communities to capture and submit damage data in real-time following sudden-onset crises, like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires, or conflicts.
3. Tools that can:
a) Enable people to report crisis damage directly from their communities;
b) Strengthen disaster response systems;
c) Improve recovery effectiveness;
d) Help communities rebuild faster;
e) Reduce vulnerability to future crises.
4. An open-source digital platform that:
a) allows people on the ground to send photos, describe damage and geolocate affected infrastructure using digital channels such as mobile apps, web platforms and/or messaging services;
b) allows people to easily report damage after a crisis;
c) will securely store reports, display them on a map, and help authorities quickly understand where the greatest impacts are and where assistance is needed most;
d) should be highly user-friendly, operate both online and offline, ensure data security and privacy, and utilize open-source methods to allow replication and integration by other agencies.
5. Shortlisted innovators will be invited to present their proposals to UNDP experts following an initial evaluation phase.
6. Solvers:
a) are required to grant non-exclusive license rights to the Intellectual Property (IP) in their proposed solutio;
b) will retain all rights to any proposal not awarded.
7. A prize of US$50,000 will be awarded to the solution that meets the technical and operational requirements.
8. Awarded Solvers will also grant a license to UNDP to make awarded solutions freely available to other non-profit organizations to help improve crisis response capabilities globally.

Systems that incorporate analytics on submitted data, AI-informed analysis, or integration with satellite/Geographic Information System (GIS) systems will be preferred.

The winning solution will need to combine high-quality software engineering with a simple interface that motivates community members to upload damage reports immediately after a crisis.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on June 23, 2026."
