With this post I would like to jump start a discussion about the
direction of the GuggaFF with regards to its future AS 3.0
implementation and more importantly how it should be influenced by
Flex, MXML and Flash CS3.
Following are some of the main topics that we are currently discussing
internally and we would like to hear your voice:
- rewrite the existing implementation to AS 3.0 without changing the
architecture
- look at new concepts introduced by Adobe with Flex and MXML and
influence the direction of the architecture of the framework
- integration between Flash CS3 and FLEX and its influence on the
GUGGAFF

We would very much like to hear what you think...

I think, the first step should be to rewrite gugga to AS3 'As is'. It
will let us start working in AS 3 :D (I can't imagine making a webapp
in flash without gugga now).
The next step could be a try to simplify notation using xml. But I
think gugga will be more powerful with some tools like code generators
etc... I was waiting with it to AS3 not to loose time on AS2. But I
think it's THE time to start.

About Flex - I think it should be treated as other product. I think it
is impossible to make gugga work good and easy on Flex and Flash
without changes. I mean flash and flex project chcaracters not
technical restrictions.

Are You planning to start working with gugga for AS3 ?

Thanks for the kind words.
Off course we are planing to move to AS 3.0 and exactly because we do
we want to hear from the you who use GUGGAFF.
I'm positive you made you hands dirty with Flex and you have probably
read about the integration between Flex and Flash CS3
I will be honest that we will need couple of months to make some
serious experimentation to establish a good working model before we
decide if will simply rewrite the framework in AS 3.0 or we will dive
into something different like more tightly integrated with Flex
version. In any event we will be looking for help at some point to
move the framework to the next level.
The direction though and the types of problems that GUGGAFF is
targeted at will not change so we are still looking for the best
possible way to use best of both Flex and Flash
I will once again encourage everyone to post questions of problems you
have with the existing version we would like to help more people get
more intimately familiar with the framework and I promise we will be
more active in posting architectural articles in our blog

This is a small update on the topic
We have already determined what would be the first piece released for
AS 3.0
This is going to be the Tasks and Sequences classes along with some
unit testing for them
