So for a bunch of heroes they're pretty busy. Daytime they are conducting ops and holding meetings with important government/hero groups, by night they are also kicking crime in the ass and doing covert ops.
That's not even mentioning those with secret identities like Batman and Daredevil. Sure for the former he can chill out during the day because "billionaire playboy philanthropist" can just do whatever he wants, only rarely having to go do business meetings or charity events. But for Daredevil he has to work day shift as Matt Murdock, the perceptive lawyer. By night he parades around Hell's Kitchen cleaning up the criminal underbelly of the city, and presumably does so long until the early hours of the morning (as most crime would take place later when people are tired or asleep). When does he sleep? How does he get enough sleep to function as a top notch lawyer and a badass vigilante capable of subduing gunmen and great big hulking bloodlusted crooks like Kingpin?
The most common argument I see is that they are just so well trained that they can perform just as well with minimal sleep, but even for superheroes that seems sketchy. Do their high tech/rich buddies kit them out with some kind of sleep replacement pill, or do they all rely on a series of punctual power naps?
To use as a wash-off mask:

Like an awesome red cape that protects us from disease, chaos, and bad choices, sleep effects the way we look, feel, perform and impacts our quality of life. Continually not getting enough effects our quality of life, impairs judgment, decreases productivity, shortens memory and in short, makes us unpleasant to be around.
Alcohol is a depressant, so a little nip should help me sleep, right? Wrong. While providing an initial comforting snooze, alcohol disrupts sleep later in the REM cycle pulling you out of a restful night.
Protect your sleep by keeping your bedroom a cool temperature at night.
Why would I take a warm shower or bath before bed then? The warm water raises your body temperature and relaxes your muscles. When your warm body enters your cool bedroom, the drop in body temperature sends the right signal to create drowsiness.
Time your Exercise:
Did you ever see a puppy, kitten or small child run around like a crazed maniac only to crash out later in a REM twitched deep state of sleepy bliss? That is the power of physical exercise. Harness it for the good of your health and sleep like a champ.
But not too late . . .
While regular physical activity will help you sleep deeper and get there faster, raising your body temperature and energizing your mind right before bed can have the opposite effect.
Protect your sleep by timing exercise sessions to end no sooner than two or three hours before bedtime. If late night workouts are your only option, experiment to see what works well with your sleep timing.
. . . And your night time light exposure.
When it starts to get dark, your body begins to release melatonin, a hormone that makes you feel drowsy and signals your body to sleep. Melatonin is meant to peak in the evening but thanks to our modern industrialized world, is suppressed by artificial light. There are other options. A nice evening ritual will prep your body for sleep and keep you super human. Here are some well-timed suggestions for how to decompress the hour before you nod off (if you last an hour!):

I am a huge fan of board books for my little readers. My daughter started flipping through the sturdy books when she was a toddler, and now she is an avid reader at only four years old. My toddler son also loves looking through our board book collection. My daughter has also developed an interest in super heroes. She loves playing super hero and bad guy at the park with her friends. When recently offered the chance to review the DC Super Heroes Little Library in exchange for my honest opinion, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to add a new set of books to my home library. The ten board books currently cost $30.67 on Amazon with a list price of $49.99.
I must admit that I am not well-versed in super heroes, so DC Super Heroes Little Library is perfect for my little readers. My daughter constantly asks me the names of various super heroes, and I usually have no idea. She has been happily flipping through and reading all ten books in the set to figure out the names and powers of each super hero and villain. My daughter especially likes My First Book of Girl Power, My First Book of Super-Villains, and My First Book of Superpowers, which answer many of her questions about the world of super heroes and bad guys.
In addition to providing information about super heroes, super powers, and villains, I appreciate that the ten books in the DC Super Heroes Little Library offer varying lengths of text. For example, ABC 123 is a shorter word book that is perfect for my two-year-old toddler. Colors and Shapes is a little longer but is still perfect for prereaders and toddlers. My kindergartener daughter loves reading the longer Super Heroes Have Friends Too! And Even Super Heroes Sleep aloud to her baby brother. The set is recommended for readers ages 3 and up, but younger kids can also enjoy many of the titles.
