Hello Groovers and Movers 😊
Â
Guelph Groove is starting up again on Saturday October 5th 2024. The dance is at 42 Quebec Street on the 3rd floor. Doors are at 7:15pm, dance begins 7:30pm. Groove events will then run the first Saturday of the month until June 2025. This month John Bryant will be our DJ. He is deeply enjoying curating the musical experience for your dance journey!
Â
We are also welcoming Jessica Sgrignoli as a volunteer this year. Jessica is a Yoga Therapist and RMT practicing in Guelph. She will be volunteering with Guelph Groove as part of her practicum placement for Expressive Arts Therapy at the Create Institute in Toronto. She is delighted to hold space and offer support to you, in your embodied exploration of self through dance. Welcome Jessica!
Â
VERY IMPORTANT ***Please do not come out dancing if you have cold or flu symptoms, or are in any way feeling unwell*** In an effort to make the environment as safe and sanitary as possible, masks and hand sanitizer are provided at the door. Wearing a mask is not mandatory, but encouraged if this is comfortable for you. We also do our best to attend to air flow throughout the space during the dance, and are limiting the number of dancers in the space to ensure it is not overcrowded. Â
Â
There is a capacity limit on people in the space to prevent overcrowding, support airflow, and ensure enough space for all to move safely/ freely. Come early to ensure you get a spot on the dance floor!Â
Â
Here are some reminders about what to expect at the Groove:
- Doors open at 7:15pm and dance begins with a brief opening circle at 7:30pm. Doors will close at 7:45pm sharp. In the time before opening circle, you can stretch, dance, meditate or chat with fellow dancers. Prepare yourself for the dance journey in whatever way is needed! Dance ends around 9pm with a closing circle.
- No shoes or partners necessary, all bodies and abilities are welcomed and celebrated
- Inspired by the 5Rhythms, music will flow from fast to slow to support our dance journey
- Street parking is available in the downtown area, but fills up quickly on Saturday, so give yourself enough time to find a parking spot nearby
- Dress in comfortable clothes that you can move in, and bring a water bottle (sinks in the washroom are small, making it difficult to refill bottles)
- We have a locked coat room for coats, bags and footwear
- The space is accessible, but arrangements must be made in advance to meet at the elevator - please email theguel...@gmail.com for this
- Is a scent free space so please no perfumes/ colognes/ strong deodorants
- Cost is $15 or PWYC. Cash at the door, or by e-transfer to theguel...@gmail.com
Â
The Guelph Groove strives to offer a welcoming and nonjudgmental space to explore spontaneous, free-form, mindful movement with playful curiosity. It’s a great opportunity to explore embodied self-expression through the healing power of dance. Come and move to the music as you are inspired to... breathe, bend, bounce, shake, wiggle and flow!Â
Â
Looking forward to moving with you on the dance floor soon! <3
Â
Warmly,
Â
Kat (Volunteer at The Guelph Groove)Â
