New conference aims to accelerate Guelph’s Technology Economy

Guelph, ON–Rapid growth in Guelph’s technology business economy will
be the focus this month as business leaders come together for the
first Guelph Technology Economy conference.

The conference – the first of its kind for the City – is scheduled for
Tuesday, Jan 19, 2010 at the new Frank Hasenfratz Centre of Excellence
in Manufacturing. The event is spearheaded by the Guelph Chamber of
Commerce, with support from the City of Guelph, Linamar, and
Communitech.

“The Information Technology (IT) sector in Guelph is reaching a
critical mass and maturity in our community, and it’s attracting a
highly-skilled and creative workforce,” says Mayor Karen Farbridge.
“This sector represents a valuable opportunity to diversify the types
of jobs we have in Guelph.”

Guelph technology business represents the third-largest segment of the
City’s economy, and is among the fastest-growing.

“The Guelph Technology Economy initiative represents fast, agile,
independent business solutions that will unite technology businesses
with other key local businesses that can benefit from their products
and expertise for the mutual benefit of all,” says Lloyd Longfield,
President of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. “The long-term goal of
the Guelph Technology Economy initiative is to greatly accelerate the
sustainable, successful growth of local technology companies on a
local and global scale.”

Highlights of the January 19th conference include:
• Jim Estill, Founder of EMJ-SYNNEX Canada, Keynote Speaker.
• Jonathan Dart, British Consulate General, Director UK Trade &
Investment (Canada),
• Technology in Business breakout sessions including sessions on
technology in business existing technology communities
• There will also be a series of panel discussions examining
technology success stories in the Guelph region, and in Canada as a
whole.
