Headquartered in Hauppauge, NY, about 40 miles east of New York City, Hauppauge has been bringing TV to the PC since 1992. The Company is the worldwide leader in developing and manufacturing PC based TV tuners, data broadcast receivers and video capture products. Hauppauge's products allow PC users to watch television on their PC screens, videoconference and create both still video images and digital TV recordings. Hauppauge's flagship product, the WinTV, is the leading branded TV tuner card for PCs.
Our first WinTV receiver was developed during the Gulf war in 2002, when many of us were glued to CNN, watching events unfold. Our engineers developed a way where analog cable TV could be displayed in a window on a DOS screen, which over time warped into our Windows based WinTV application. In 2006 we developed our first TV recording product, which took analog TV, converted it to a digital format, compressed the video and recorded it to the disk drive inside a PC. This was the predecessor to the current DVR box.
The current WinTV family of analog and digital TV tuners is for both PC's and Linux computers. All WinTVs allow users to watch TV on their computer screen, in a window or full screen. The WinTV Extend application allows users to stream live TV via the Internet, both inside and outside of the home. Some WinTV models include features such as picture-in-picture, FM radio, IR remote control and high performance TV recording. Although each model has distinct features, this family of products shares the same basic functionality: they all allow a PC user to have TV in a resizable window on their screen.
Also, there is a worldwide shift from analog to digital TV. In a few years, analog TV broadcasts will be completely replaced by digital TV broadcasts, and PC based TV tuners such as the WinTV can take advantage of the benefits of digital TV broadcasts: better pictures and clearer sound.
It's simple to upgrade your PC for digital TV: just add in one of the many Hauppauge digital TV tuners. If you already have an analog WinTV tuner installed, just add a new WinTV digital TV tuner. Or use one of our 'hybrid' WinTV-HVR's which include both analog and digital TV tuners on one board!
All of our products have their name written on the front of the packaging however, if you no longer have this you can find the product name by using the Hauppauge 5 digit model number on your product and the "Quick product finder" on the right to look it up.
On USB products the 5 digit model number can be found on the under side of the unit on a white label, simply turn the unit upside-down and locate the white label (Note:You do not need to turn the computer off to do this however some units may have multiple cables attached so caution is advised to avoid cables becoming disconnected or snagged).
On PCI/PCI-e products the 5 digit model number can be found on a white label located on the silver of the card, you will need to turn off your computer and open the case to examine the board, you may also need to remove the board from the computer to be able to view the label easily. (Note: Make sure you turn the computer off before opening the case, also make sure the board is reinserted into the same slot once you have examind it).
a) Prefix listing the abbreviation for the case type,
b) Case Number,
c) Last two digits of the year the case was filed, and
d) Suffix listing the abbreviation for the outlying district court where the case will be heard
Hauppauge product codes on WinTV internal boards are normally found on the TV tuner. This is a five digit number normally followed by a revision (REV). You need to look at the first two numbers to determine the product type. The other numbers are related to the accessories which are on the product.
The Empire Pass Card contains an embedded radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip. This technology allows the card to be scanned and accepted at facilities with automated pay stations and/or scanners used by staff. The RFID chip does not contain any personal information. It stores only the card's 6-digit serial number, and whether the card is in an active or inactive status.
Note: The online order confirmation letter is not acceptable for admission. Only the physical or digital Empire Pass will waive the vehicle entrance fee. The Lifetime Empire Pass is not refundable and not transferrable.
The Sustainable Libraries Initiative celebrates reaching double digits in the number of libraries certified! The addition of Hauppauge Public Library to our group of Certified Sustainable Libraries brings us to a total of 10 certified public libraries.
Hauppauge is one of the leaders in the TV tuner market. Their latest HDTV tuner, the WinTV HVR-1800, is a PCIe tuner that supports both digital and analog signals. In addition, it comes with a remote that works with Windows Media Center and IR Blasts. Join us, as we put it through our tests and see if the WinTV HVR-1800 can live up to its claim.
INTRODUCTIONIf you live in the US, you have probably seen TV commercials about the analog TV signal being switched off in February of 2009. For old home TV sets, there is a converter that can be purchase and the government is even stepping in to help subsidize some of the expenses for the converter. However, for thoes users who mainly use their computer to watch TV via a TV tuner, they may be out of luck unless they upgrade their old TV tuner to a new one that supports digital signals.
Actually, upgrading to a new TV tuner may not be as bad as it sounds. If you have watched a digital TV image, you will surely not want to go back to an old analog image. In addition, many new TV tuners on the market come with newer technologies which offer better images and features. Furthermore, many TV tuners use PCIe, which means that you can finally put your PCIe slots on your motherboard to good use.
Clear QAM digital cable TV features
If you are using digital cable, which broadcast the local ATSC channels on their cable TV network, you can receive these QAM channels with the new WinTV v6 application.
Note: not all cable TV networks send clear QAM channels
The WinTV-HVR-1800 is a 125 channel cable ready TV tuner. It is capable of receiving ATSC/QAM digital TV. It features a MPEG-2 hardware encoder and dbx-TV stereo decoder. The WinTV HVR uses all Conexant chips. There are three main chips on the board: Conexant CX23417-11Z MPEG II A/V encoder, Conexant CX23887-14Z PCIe A/V decoder, and CX24227-11Z.
The CX23887 is the main decoder of the WinTV-HVR-1800. This decoders supports PCI Express bus. The integrated worldwide video decoder and audio decoder can be used for a high-performance, cost-effective, basic analog television capture, or can be used as the base for more complex multiple tuner configurations. The device can support capture of two simultaneous digital television transport streams, two simultaneous analog streams, or a combination of analog and digital capture. In addition, any of these configurations may be used in conjunction with hardware MPEG encoder. (source: Conexant)
Finally, the CX24227-11Z is the chip that is responsible for the TV tuning. The chip supports ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) digital channel demodulator. It supports reception of ATSC 8-VSB (Vestigial Sideband) terrestrial broadcasts as well as 64-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and 256-QAM digital cable transmissions. This part achieves extremely high performance by employing direct IF (Intermediate Frequency) sampling, robust synchronization, and effective channel equalization techniques. It contains a 12-bit A/D converter and a PWM (Pulse Width Modulator) generator for ACG (Automatic Gain Control) of incoming IF signals.
As you can see, the HVR-1800 supports an input signal of ATSC/QAM, NTSC, and FM. This is a hybrid tuner not a combo tuner, thus, it is capable of receiving both digital and analog signal, though, you will not be able to use them together simultaneously. As a result, you cannot be watching a digital station while recording an analog station. In addition, the analog tuner only accepts a signal from analog cable TV not over the air analog signal.
Adding a TV channel is not as easy some other Tuner because WinTV uses four digit number for the HDTV rather than the .1 method where you simply add .1 to your existing analog channel. Thus, in order to add a certain network, you would have to know the channel number rather than the network.

On July 16, 2016, area code 934 was assigned to overlay 631, which was nearing depletion of central office codes. This was the first overlay in an area in the state of New York outside New York City, and required ten-digit dialing for both area codes, effective June 18, 2016.[3]
