Folks,
I'm pulling together a cookbook that celebrates the tastes of Detroit, by Detroiters... but less focused on building a better Coney than sharing favorite dishes and drinks (and the stories that go with them) that we love to share with our friends and families.
The initial purpose here is to create something beautiful and ultimately, delicious, to share with a group of visiting European German Marshall Fellows. They're visiting Detroit in early October and having just visited Europe on the fellowship myself, I can tell you that the food you eat when you go abroad really tells you a lot about the place, its culture and its people. I want these folks to take Detroit home with them and spread the word, via food, of all that's good here.

In return, I'll share the book with you and anyone interested in it.

I have a new drink on the Sugarhouse fall menu that pays olfactory homage my grandfather who was a Detroit policeman who worked his way up through the force. It's called "Detective Inspector". I'd be happy to offer it up for your book. It's easy for the home bartender to make as well.

Hi all,
Wanted to circle back and share the fruits of the effort to which many of you contributed. Attached is a PDF of Detroit Delicacies, a mini-cookbook I was able to share with the visiting European German Marshall Fellows. This was a quickie experiment that told me there's a wellspring of ideas, stories and recipes that we all have. It would be great to do this again, quarterly perhaps, and spend a bit more time on the effort. Let me know if you'd like to play.

This just delightful - a wonderfully designed and put-together book! So fun to read! Thank you for including me in this
project! And, yes, I'll play in the future!
