Cricket Valley Energy Center (CVEC) had the opportunity to sponsor a miniature golf event to benefit the Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County. Community Action Partnership, or CAP, is a non-profit organization that provides programs, services, information, and resources to low-income residents of Dutchess County. One program they provide is Energy Conservation and Winterization Assistance. This specific program helps families and individuals reduce their energy costs through no-cost upgrades to their homes and provide temporary emergency fuel for home heating systems.
Cricket Valley Energy Center (CVEC) is a proud sponsor of Dover Day 2022, an annual community event. Every year the residents of Dover come together for a day of fun at Boyce Park. The park is in Wingdale, the Southern Hamlet of Dover.
The day begins with a parade featuring the local first responders, veterans, scouts, and various social groups. After the parade, the crowd gathers at the park to visit area vendors, political groups, a car show, plus games and rides for the young and old. The festivities end with an evening celebratory fireworks display. People coming together as a community and breaking bread leads to big things in a small town. CVEC has presented a donation for the event, which was held in September.
Cricket Valley Energy Center (CVEC) proudly supports the Dover Little League. The youth sports group enables children to play baseball, while getting exercise and building positive relationships with teammates and coaches. Don Ross, Facility Manager, and Samantha White, Plant Administrator, were invited to the field to accept a plaque on behalf of CVEC for the donation made. A banner representing CVEC was proudly displayed near the entrance to the field.
Every year, the Town of Dover hosts, what the locals affectionately refer to as, Dover Day. Dover Day is a day of fun for the community including carnival rides for the kids and a huge car show, as well as food vendors, live music throughout the day and a fireworks finish in the evening. This year Cricket Valley Energy Center sponsored the event through a monetary donation as well as having a physical presence. On Saturday, September 18th, 2021, CVEC Facility Manager Don Ross and several other members of the CVEC team manned a table under the main tent getting a chance to meet and greet the local people. Many folks came to the table to thank CVEC for the various contributions to the community and welcome them to town. Community Day was a hit and a great time was had by all.
The Center for Compassion in Dover Plains, NY runs a thrift store and a food pantry. The thrift store sales go toward food purchases but cannot support the pantry on its own. One of the events coordinated by the Dover residents and The Center to help raise money is the annual golf tournament. The 6th Annual Nick Frankie Golf Tournament was held on Sept 25th, 2021. Approximately 90 people registered to join in the afternoon fun. Cricket Valley Energy Center participated by purchasing 2 tickets for the event. The money raised was used to purchase healthy food for those in need.
Cricket Valley Energy Center had a visit from the local fire department, J.H. Ketcham Hose Company. This year was tough for the all-volunteer fire department as many of their fundraisers, including their biggest, the Annual Dover Carnival, was canceled due to the pandemic. CVEC heard there was a need and asked the firefighters to provide a list of some tools that could help them on their rescues. They submitted a list and the items were procured. The Dover Volunteer Fire Department members stopped by the facility to say thank you and show off their new tools.
First, the delivery was double the size of any other month last year in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday and season that follows. Kudos to the folks at the Food Bank for their amazing coordination and organization. The food is delivered, sorted, and ready for distribution within hours of arrival.
Also, with the help of Advanced Power, CVEC was able to donate a refrigerator/freezer to replace a unit that had recently broken during a power outage. The unit was immediately put to good use housing the larger than average delivery.
As always, the volunteers at the Center were extremely grateful for both the timely gift and the labor efforts CVEC can provide each month. CVEC is proud to partner with the Center of Compassion for such a worthy cause.
