I have written a Desktop app (Windows/Mac/Linux) generates an .epub doc file of the Guardian, using one of these Open Platform API keys.

This is intended for eInk Kindles, such as the Kindle Paperwhite.   These Kindles don’t have apps.  They do have and “experimental” web browser, but it’s crap; plus it needs an internet connection to work, and I don’t like taking my phone to the beach!! (I know, problems, problems, right? 😉)

The app doesn’t run under any one API key, such as my own one.  Once installed, the user has to paste in their own key.  The app then lets the user choose which sections that they want in their built .epub file.

I developed this app primarily for myself.  My question is would I be breaking any Terms and Conditions if I shared my application with others?  It would be open source and free of charge, always.

Hello! And thank you for raising this question.

I've asked our Licensing team for guidance. I have their response:

"This use case is fine for their own personal use, as this more or less complies with our Open Licence Terms, however sharing their app with other users would not, regardless as to whether they are monetising or not."

I hope that helps to clarify things.

Best wishes,
Rik
