Getting comments from the article

Hello, I'd like to retrieve comments for given article.

I get the article and its metadata (fields) using content API (https://open-platform.theguardian.com/documentation/search).

My feeling that I could use trailing part of "shortURL" field (https://gu.com/p/VALUE) to construct query: http://discussion.theguardian.com/discussion-api/discussion//p/VALUE.

However most of the time it returns with DISCUSSION_NOT_FOUND error.

I think this is because discussion is closed, but not sure here.

Is there any way to get to discussion from fields of an item returned by content endpoint (https://open-platform.theguardian.com/documentation/search)?

As far as I know Guardian article’s comments are not available at all.

Hi! I am currently working on a student project for which I would like to scrape Guardian comments. Have you eventually managed to retrieve comments through The Guardian's API at all? If so, would you mind sharing what you've done?
