Many TiVo users who have moved around components or reformatted their hard drives have seen the Error #51 - also called a Hardware Error. This error simply means that the software on the hard drive has been serialized to a different motherboard, and needs to be reserialized to the current motherboard to work.
To reserialized the software on the drive to the current motherboard, the user needs to go into TiVo Central -> Messages and Setup -> Restart Recorder -> Clear and Delete Everything, and then follow the instructions from there.
TiVo DVRs serialize to the current motherboard to protect the content on the drive. The drive, if moved to another unit, will not play back the content that has been recorded on the drive, and many other features will not work properly. In this way, content recorded on one machine cannot be played back on another by moving the hard drive.
Many TiVo owners encounter this message when moving image files around from unit to unit, or downloading an image file from the internet. The image file was taken from a serialized unit, and when imaged back onto a drive, it still expects to find that original motherboard.
As with most security measures, hackers have figured out ways around this one. For hacked TiVos, a script called 51killer can prevent future recordings from having this encryption. There is no known way to disable the encryption on already-recorded files.
Since then it has been working just fine but yesterday after I had chosen the Pandora app to play I got nothing but a black screen and no sound. I tried opening the Netflix and Prime apps which are also in my favourite apps list and they were working just fine.
I've gone ahead and removed the Tivo association from your account. This will automatically sign you out once this change takes effect. Once this happens, can you go through the set-up again and let me know if you're still getting the black screen and no sound.
Hi Tanner, I'm still just getting the black screen and no sound, so I can't even try to authenticate Pandora again with my device. Like I said earlier it appears that Pandora is the only App. that is not responding.
any new information on the pandora blank screen issue? mine started doing the same thing. very aggravating. i spoke to tivo, and they said an update should be coming, but i think she had zero knowledge of that. pandora has worked fine on tivo for years until a couple weeks ago.
i believe so. the model is the Tivo Bolt Vox - 1 TB. Thank you! This is extremely aggravating and disappointing. Pandora was the sole reason we went with Tivo as the Time Warner DVR didn't have the app on-board. Pandora worked great on our old Tivo, and worked on this Bolt for a year until it started blanking out a couple weeks ago.
I had exactly the same problem, the only thing that worked for me was to unplug the Tivo for 20 sec. or so and it would show up. It seems it would stay put for a few weeks and then I'd have to unplug it again. I finally got rid of my Bolt and bought the Edge, just got it all working and that was one of the first things I checked. Pandora was there at least for now and today is the first day with the Edge so if it goes missing again I'll be back on here complaining again.
I've got a Tivo OTA box. Pandora worked fine until about 3 weeks ago when it started the same business that is reported in this thread -- i.e. all other apps work fine Pandora just goes to a black screen and doesn't even load. I've rebooted everything, etc. Don't know if I can "reload" Pandora -- as I recall Pandora was preloaded in the apps.
Ok like I said in my last post if Pandora goes missing again I'd be back complaining. I was leaning towards Tivo being the culprit but now I'm convinced it is a Pandora issue. I got rid of my Tivo Bolt and bought a new Tivo Edge. It has been working great until about a week ago and the old problem of Pandora not opening up when clicked on has reappeared. I would just get a long message that there is an error and check back later. I found that if unplugged the Edge it would show up again. It has happened twice now over a period of 12 days. Out of all of the apps I have on Tivo, Pandora is the only one that I have trouble with.
Unbelievable that in this day and age, we cannot pause, rewind, FF live tv using Xumo/Spectrum App. We received our Xumo devices this week, hooked them up, thought they were great, until I wanted to go to the bathroom and tried to pause what I was watching. Nope, cannot do that. We are back to our cable boxes. However, I might keep the Xumo devices, since they are inexpensive, for streaming and in the hopes that they figure out how to add pausing live TV.
In order to rewind live TV there needs to be something recording and storing content as it is watched. Even traditional cable needs a DVR to do this, and we do offer a Cloud DVR service which can grant those capabilities through the Spectrum TV app.
At this time no device that has access to use the Spectrum TV app has the ability to pause/rewind/fast forward live TV. That is only an ability of the physical DVR boxes we offer. There is no information as to if or when this function will be available on the app.
I'm sorry, we do have Cloud DVR service that will allow you to start an in-progress recording and then view that recording with rewind/fast forward up until live. I will be happy to forward your feedback about this feature without the DVR.
We just received our xumo and started spectrum streaming. We cloudDVR the national news every evening. It appears that we cannot fast forward through the commercials and unwanted stories with the xumo but our Roku will do it. What am I missing???.
Just found the same issue. These devices have a long way to go. The progress bar on recorded shows do not differentiate between the program and commercials and is not easy for seniors to figure out how to fast foward and remind. Spectrum needs to take some features that are included in many of the other streaming services and add them to this app to make it viable.
If you are not able to you should add the feature because it's a pain to do it without being able to see the picture while it's forwarding to see when you are at the end of the commercial. You have to keep stopping to check and usually you overshoot and have to rewind.
At this time pause/rewind/fast forward on live TV is not available on any device using the Spectrum TV app. This feature is solely available on the physical DVR boxes. I can definitely forward that feedback up for you as well.
Xumo is a rolling train wreck. Constantly get error messages either channel or program we are watching live is unavailable, recordings are unavailable while in midstream (same error message as with channels), switches channels to some random one, shuts off, unable to preview while fast forwarding, cannot page up or down, cannot get to what you want to watch via guide (must input channel number while not in guide), & finally, remote that works only when it wants to. Had tech replace line to the house & now on to the 2nd box. Nothing has helped!
I have the fastest internet available and my xumo box is about 4 feet from the router, but when watching channels in the Spectrum app, it periodically buffers for a few seconds. Sometimes almost as bad as dial up internet back in the 1990s. If it's on a music choice channel, the sound periodically stops for a second or two, then skips ahead a few seconds (I guess to catch up). A teck is coming the day after tomorrow. I'm curious as to weather or not others have experienced similar issues with xumo. Also, doesn't have the option to rewind a show your watching? Seems like it's lacking a lot of features that Comcast and Cox have in outer parts of the country . Fingers crossed the tech can fix the issue.
Thank you for reaching out to us. I am not sure what troubleshooting you have already completed. Have you attempted to reset the Xumo box and the internet equipment. The modem and router can be reset by unplugging the cable line, power line, and removing the battery backup if you have one for both the modem and the router for a solid 3-5 minutes. The Xumo box can be reset by unplugging the power to the box and then reconnecting it. Please try this and let us know if this helps out.
I turned in all my cable boxes naively thinking the Xumo stream box would be advanced enough to allow all functionality. A nice savings, but the inconvenience is not welcome. Get with it Spectrum and get your app updated with these typical functions please!
We are having the same problems. I have called Spectrum customer service 3 times and I feel certain no one knows they don't FF or RW because last week someone sent us two new remotes, claimed there was a defect in some remotes, which of course didn't FF or RW either. Finally, just to get me off the phone, the Xumo specialist said-go to your local store and get them to give you new Xumos, yours are broken. We've been rewinding since what, the 80s and VCRs? Why would they ever think this is an acceptable piece of equipment? I'm very unhappy with Specreum about this.
Why can't I fast forward the active screen. I can only see the time sequence, and not the picture. Therefore, I have to continue to guess where to stop forwarding, then reverse, then fast forward. It has been a year since this was brought up by a customer. Has the problem been remedied?
I'd like to clarify some things regarding pausing live TV. Even with traditional cable TV service pausing was only ever possible with a DVR or VCR actively recording what you are watching to a harddrive in the DVR or cassette in the VCR. It is only Live TV when at the very latest moment available in the broadcast, so you can never really pause live only switch between live and a recording.
Xumo and similar devices do not have the space inside for large storage drives, they connect you to online streaming services who almost all are providing content that is already recorded and saved on a server accessible by the cloud. The Spectrum TV app does provide access to On-Demand programming, which can be paused just like any other online streaming service. The availability of episodes is determined by the TV networks but almost all new shows are fully watchable on demand.
