CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION COORDINATOR

The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) is a regional organization of indigenous movements of Asia committed to promote and defend indigenous peoples’ rights and human rights in general by strengthening the solidarity and cooperation of indigenous organizations and communities in Asia.
AIPP has five strategic programmes for consolidated approach on raising awareness, building capacities and for policy advocacy and lobby work for the rights and recognition of indigenous peoples in Asia. The Environment Programme of the AIPP coordinates thematic research, development and advocacy work on climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity and indigenous knowledge among indigenous peoples and their networks at national, regional and international levels.
As part of the Environment programme, AIPP is implementing climate change adaptation project “Building Resiliency of Indigenous Communities on Climate Change Adaptation” in 5 Asian countries – Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Lao PDR. This project is supported by MISEREOR for 3 years. The overall objective of the project is to enhance the capacities of indigenous communities on climate change adaptation and to develop and mainstream short, medium and long term Indigenous Communities’ Adaptation Plans and Strategies (ICAPS) for inclusion into national adaptation and development planning and implementation processes.
For successful implementation of the project, AIPP needs a dynamic and self-motivated climate change adaptation coordinator to join the regional secretariat based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The major tasks of the coordinator are as follows:
The coordinator should be AN INDIGENOUS PERSON from Asia with the following qualifications:
The proposed tenure of the coordinator is for the duration of 3 years subject to yearly extension based on performance evaluation with first 6 months probation period.
