Hello All!

I hope everyone has had an excellent weekend! Here's the agenda for this week:

I.
Weekly Meetings: Sundays, 9 pm, Healy Hall

II. Jesuit University Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) Summer Workshop Application

III. DarfurFeast: Dessert Edition, Tuesday, April 20, 8 pm, ICC 120

IV. STANDCamp!

I. Weekly Meetings: Sundays, 9 pm, Healy Hall

Take a prominent leadership role in human rights advocacy on campus! Join the Georgetown STAND Core group for our weekly meetings in Healy Hall, at 9 pm every Sunday. In particular, we will be discussing our upcoming lecture event featuring Nyi Nyi Aung, a Burmese-American citizen recently released from prison in Burma. If you are interested in joining the Georgetown STAND Core group, please contact Carolyn Shanahan (cshan...@gmail.com).

II. Jesuit University Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) Summer Workshop Application: Deadline Extended to April 22nd

The Jesuit University Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) will be sponsoring a three-day workshop (June 4-6, 2010) at Georgetown. The purpose of the workshop is to train student leaders on ways that Jesuit universities can contribute towards more effective disaster management, including prevention and mitigation strategies for natural and manmade disasters, disaster assistance, and reconstruction initiatives.

To apply to participate in the JUHAN workshop on humanitarian emergencies, please fill out the attached application and submit a resume and cover letter (1 page maximum) on the reasons you should be chosen to represent Georgetown University. Please contact Jennifer Chen (jb...@georgetown.edu) if you have any questions about the application or the workshop in general.

III. DarfurFeast: Dessert Edition, 4/20, 8 pm, ICC 120

Join Georgetown STAND for our annual celebration of Sudanese culture, with a speaker from a prominent Sudan advocacy organization. Desserts will be served from our local and favorite Georgetown locations. We look forward to seeing you there!

IV. STANDCamp!

STAND National has recently gone through a significant restructuring process, revising its chapter leadership system in order to better accommodate the resourcing and training needs of local chapters. Accordingly, STAND is hosting a summer retreat for student activist representatives from across the country, which will feature training sessions from a variety of professionals in the field of foreign policy, social media, and grassroots organizing. The retreat, which will take place between July 18 and July 25, will be located at a retreat center one hour outside of DC. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact me at de...@georgetown.edu.

Please contact me (de...@georgetown.edu) if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy your Mondays!

All the best,
Daniel Solomon
