Hello All!
I hope this email finds you enjoying your Sunday evening. We have a splendiferous week coming up, filled with a number of excellent opportunities to participate in STAND's community organizing efforts:
In this email, you will find:
- We have extended our national conference delegation application deadline! It'll be a great opportunity to join our national student network, and engage with activists, experts, and high-level policymakers.
- STAND National needs a student with experience in faith-based community outreach to participate in a conference panel on anti-genocide activism and faith communities.
- Sen. Chris Coons, a champion of human rights and conflict prevention in sub-Saharan Africa, will be speaking at Georgetown tomorrow.
- And, lastly, our own Carly Rosenfield was a blogosphere superstar this week!
STAND National Conference Delegation
October 22-24; Applications due 11:59 pm on Friday, September 23 [Note: We've extended the deadline.].
- We've extended our conference delegation application deadline! This year, between October 22 and 24, STAND National is holding its annual advocacy and education conference, entitled “Generation without Genocide.” The national conference is a fantastic opportunity to interact with fellow anti-genocide activists, learn about genocide and mass atrocities prevention and conflicts in Sudan, Libya, Syria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and build your network of community organizers. We have received a limited quantity of funding for our conference delegation, and have attached delegation applications. They're short, but we just want to get an initial sense of your interest in participating. See the attachment below, and please submit your application to st...@georgetown.edu by 11:59 pm on Friday, September 23.
STAND National Needs a Faith Outreach Trainer!
- STAND National is looking to hold a training session on faith-based outreach and community organizing at our October conference, and is interested in featuring a local student to speak about best practices from their faith-based outreach experiences. If you're interested in faith-based organizing, speaking in front of hundreds of anti-genocide activists, and playing a key role in the growth of the anti-genocide movement, we'd love to have you! Contact st...@georgetown.edu if you're interested. You can find more information about the conference here.
Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) at Georgetown on U.S.-Africa Policy
Monday, September 19, 1:45-3:30 pm; Riggs Library
- As the continent emerges as a potent force in international politics and political economy, Africa faces unprecedented economic, political, and security challenges. Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, who has long been a staunch advocate for human rights and conflict prevention in Africa, will explore these challenges and the American policy response. This event, sponsored by the African Studies Program, the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs, the Mortara Center for International Affairs, the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, and the Georgetown Africa Interest Network (GAIN), is sure to interest STAND members' interests in politics, human rights, and international affairs.
