Hello All!

I trust that everyone has been enjoying this exceptional weather. This week is a suspenseful one, with the first multi-party Sudanese elections in 24 years currently taking place.

I. Weekly Meetings: Sundays, 9 pm, Healy Hall

Take a prominent leadership role in human rights advocacy on campus! Join the Georgetown STAND Core group for our weekly meetings in Healy Hall, at 9 pm every Sunday. In particular, we will be discussing plans for our annual celebration of Sudanese culture, DarfurFeast, which will occur in late March. If you are interested in joining the Georgetown STAND Core group, please contact Carolyn Shanahan (cshan...@gmail.com).

II. Elections in Sudan

Sudan's first multi-party elections in 24 years are currently taking place. The elections will prove a decisive event in the country's contemporary history. They will also prove a decisive event in the status and legitimacy of Omar al-Bashir's National Congress Party. For the latest information on the Sudanese elections, visit the Sudan Tribune. For opportunities for action--to ensure that the United States government does not legitimize an illegitimately "elected" regime--see here and here.

III. DarfurFeast: Dessert Edition, 4/20, 8 pm, Location TBA

Join Georgetown STAND for our annual celebration of Sudanese culture, with a speaker from a prominent Sudan advocacy organization. Desserts will be served from our local and favorite Georgetown locations. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please contact me (de...@georgetown.edu) if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy your Mondays!

All the best,
Daniel Solomon
