Hello All!

I hope everyone has had an excellent weekend! Here's the agenda for the week:

I. Weekly Meetings: Sundays, 9 pm, Healy Hall

II. Burma VJ Screening and Discussion: Tuesday, April 27, 7:30 pm, ICC 108

III. STANDCamp!

I. Weekly Meetings: Sundays, 9 pm, Healy Hall

Take a prominent leadership role in human rights advocacy on campus! Join the Georgetown STAND Core group for our weekly meetings in Healy Hall, at 9 pm every Sunday. In particular, we will be discussing our upcoming lecture event featuring Nyi Nyi Aung, a Burmese-American citizen recently released from prison in Burma. If you are interested in joining the Georgetown STAND Core group, please contact Carolyn Shanahan (cshan...@gmail.com).

II. Burma VJ Screening and Discussion, Tuesday, April 27, 7:30 pm, ICC 108

STAND and the GU Lecture Fund are co-hosting a screening of Oscar-nominated documentary Burma VJ about the struggle for democracy and freedom in the 2007 Saffron Revolution.  Armed with video cameras, a tenacious band of Burmese reporters face down death to expose the repressive regime controlling their country.  Burmese-American pro-democracy activist Nyi Nyi Aung, who was recently released from prison in Burma, will also speak about his experiences and how the struggle continues today.

III. STANDCamp!

STAND National has recently gone through a significant restructuring process, revising its chapter leadership system in order to better accommodate the resourcing and training needs of local chapters. Accordingly, STAND is hosting a summer retreat for student activist representatives from across the country, which will feature training sessions from a variety of professionals in the field of foreign policy, social media, and grassroots organizing. The retreat, which will take place between July 18 and July 25, will be located at a retreat center one hour outside of DC. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact me at de...@georgetown.edu.

Please contact me (de...@georgetown.edu) if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy your Mondays!

All the best,
Daniel Solomon
