Hello All!
I trust everyone is enjoying their Fridays. I would like to notify everyone of an upcoming advocacy stunt by the Genocide Intervention Network and STAND, which we will be using to garner media attention about the shortcomings of the upcoming Sudanese elections. Here are the details:
Who: DC-Area Students
When: 10 am, Monday, April 12 (preferred time but STAND will work with students)
What: Stunt - Wrap a few trashcans on the Hill/near the State Department in
big bright banners that say “Sudanese Ballot Box: Elections are NOT
free or fair” (or similar message). Also send a few activists to the
hill with big trash cans also wrapped in that sign, filled with bags of
trash/fake ballots. TAKE PICTURES then clear out. (Students will need
to bring trashcans so we have enough--but that should not keep people
from coming).
Media plan: We'll be notifying bloggers the day before the
stunt and then will immediately follow up by sending pictures and a
press release so numbers and being visible is important on this one--it'll be the only way to get the message out and make it loud enough
for the administration to hear.
Media targets: Politico, TPM, FP, Change.org, Huffington Post
Fill out
this form to sign up for the action. IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT ATTENDING, PLEASE SIGN UP. You will receive more information after filling out the web form. Please contact me at
daniel.s...@gmail.com with any questions.
For more information about the upcoming elections, see
this report from the International Crisis Group.
I look forward to seeing you there!
All the best,
Daniel Solomon
