Hello All!

I hope everyone's semester has gotten off to a good start. I wanted to shoot Georgetown STAND a quick email regarding an upcoming demonstration surrounding the present crisis in Libya. Mass atrocities in Libya have escalated significantly over the past week; according to some sources, civilian deaths have reached the 1,000 benchmark. The U.S. government has condemned the actions of the Qaddafi regime, but has not put forward a set of policy proposals to resolve the crisis. Accordingly, DC STAND students will be demonstrating at the State Department on Friday to call for robust U.S. policy leadership, including the multilateral implementation of a no-fly zone. Here's more information about the planned demonstration:

When: Friday, February 25, 12:00 pm
Where: U.S. State Department (meet at the Foggy Bottom Metro Station, on 23rd and Eye St., NW)
Why: To call for a more robust U.S. policy response to mass atrocities in Libya
What: Bring signs! "Wherefore art thou R2P?" "DC STANDs for peace and justice in Libya" and "Pour coffee on Qaddafi" are all appropriate starting points for catchy slogans.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the demonstration, and please indicate your attendance on the Facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=136868226380039. Additionally, I've attached a one-pager on the present situation. Feel free to distribute it to friends, family members, and fellow classmates.

All the best,
Daniel
