to GSC announce listserv
Hi GSC folks - I wanted to pass along this petition that I helped to put together with folks at the law school (I'm in the evening law program for those of you who don't already know), and we're trying to get signatures to pressure GU Law to not allow employers to recruit on campus if those employers ask their employees to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) or mandatory arbitration agreements. There's more info below, and here is the link to the petition:

I think undergrads should consider putting together a petition addressed to the main campus GU administration as well - I don't know for sure which employers recruiting on campus have NDAs or MAs as part of their hiring (TFA? Consulting companies? Wall Street firms?), but GU shouldn't be allowing any employer on campus that tries to push people into these kinds of agreements when they hire them.

I know most of the workers' rights campaigns for GSC are focused on current campus workers, but this is something that speaks to your future wellbeing as a worker, whether you're going into an industry where a lot of employers use NDAs or whether you're a labor organizer trying to organize workers who are operating under NDAs.

Feel free to reach out if you've got any questions, and please share with other folks!

Best,

Nick

Hi PILS People,

Hope everybody is doing well. I wanted to reach out about a petition that a couple friends (cc'ed) and I put together.

We're asking GULC to prohibit employers from recruiting on campus if those employers require associates, staff, or summer associates to agree to mandatory arbitration or non-disclosure agreements that cover discrimination, harassment or other workplace abuses. These kinds of agreements silence victims and help employers brush misconduct under the rug (Harvey Weinstein relied on these kinds of agreements to keep victims from sharing their stories sooner). This stuff is especially relevant for folks going to firms, but some of the bigger nonprofits have these as well.

We thought this would be an issue of interest for lots of folks, and I was wondering if you all would be willing to share it with other folks across campus Steve, Rachel, and I are all evening students, and you all prob know a lot more people on campus than we do.

You can sign the petition and share the link (https://www.coworker.org/p/georgetown-arbitration).  Feel free to share it with folks beyond just GU, but we especially want law students/alums to sign on if possible.

Best,

Nick
