Hey everyone - wanted to pass along this cool event coming up on Monday evening, should definitely be pretty cool to get to talk to Dave Zirin. If you don't know him already, he's an awesome writer who does a lot of work on the intersection of sports and social justice - paying college athletes, not letting billionaire sports team owners fleece cities to get stadiums built, looking at displacement from Olympics/World Cup, and more.

More than a Game: Sports, Politics, and PowerAn Evening with Dave Zirin

5:30 p.m. – Sports Activism and Writing – Students interested in sports activism and sports writing are invited to talk with Dave Zirin in a smaller setting. Please RSVP here. Space is limited.

 

7 p.m.  – An Evening with Dave Zirin

  • Does the NCAA commodify its players? What happens when athletes advocate for change?
  • Husain Abdullah and Mahmoud Abdul-Ruf were criticized for openly praying. How do race and religion play out on the court or field?
  • Who wins and who losses with the Olympic games, World Cup, and other big sports events? What’s race got to do with it?
  •  Is sport inherently combative? In what ways and when has it built peace?
  • Join us for these questions and your questions.
